I’ve simply accumulated too many rectifier tubes for my Woo amp, so some have to go. None of these tubes are extremely rare or sought after, but for somebody on a budget looking to try some different rectifiers, this is an economical way to do just that. I have no tube tester, so the information I give you is what I was told when I purchased these. All of the tubes function properly when installed in my amp. Some are in the condition I received them, others have been used for some hours since, as noted in the descriptions below.
The tubes:
- One new Svetlana 5U4G ‘coke bottle’, purchased from Jack Woo with the amp, Sovtek box. Price: $12.00
Brand new, current production tube, tested in my amp for a few minutes to verify that it works. Jack told me it was a Svetlana tube, so I don’t know why it came with a Sovtek box. Maybe a Sovtek tube? I don’t know.
- One used Stromberg Carlson 5U4G ‘coke bottle’, purchased on ebay, white box. Price: $15.00
This is a good, clean tube. Lettering is nice and clear. It has a manufacturer’s code of 274 on the base which would indicate that it was made by RCA. This is really a keeper, but I’m selling this because I have too many RCA rectifiers. I have only put a few hours on this one since receiving it. Ebay listing information:
“One 5U4 G Stromberg Carlson--Black Plates--Code 1-17---274 --Tested On Jackson 648 reading 125/125 where 70 is low--Very Nice One”
And it is a “very nice one” indeed.
- One NOS RCA 5U4GB (straight tubular shape), purchased from VacuumTubes.net, white box. Price: $10.00
Purchased as an NOS tube, tested it in my amp for a few minutes to verify that it works.
- One NOS GE 5AR4/GZ34, labeled GT BRITAIN, purchased from VacuumTubes.net, white box. Price: $20.00
Tested this tube in my amp for a few minutes to verify that it works. When I spoke to Dale at VacuumTubes.net, I told him I wanted a Mullard variant of the 5AR4/GZ34. He said that he had an NOS, made-in-Great-Britain tube. I paid waaaay too much for this tube, since it appears to be a Japanese tube (which is a fine tube) but it’s not a Mullard or Amperex tube. I’m suggesting that it is a Japanese tube because it has an ‘X’ seam at the top of the glass envelope, which was, to my understanding, a characteristic of a Japanese tube. Most of the printing is gone from the glass and there is no printing on the base. What is left on the glass is part of the ‘GE’ logo and you can faintly see ‘GT Britain’ towards the top, along with ‘5AR4/GZ34’. This is a decent, clean NOS (not current production) rectifier and far superior to the current Chinese tubes. Truthfully, on this particular tube, my loss is your gain.
Prices listed include shipping to the CONUS ONLY via USPS first class mail. If you prefer priority mail with insurance or delivery confirmation, that will be additional. PayPal preferred.
Lastly, if somebody wants the whole lot, I would let them go for $50, including shipping.
