couldn't you just buy it straight from apple, pay the 200 or 300 for the phone, then assuming you want to take it to a different service provider just cancel your contract, pay the $200 early termination fee and still have the phone for around $400-500?

Yeah, I've called up AT&T and realized one of my family members is eligble for an upgrade. So I guess I'm gonna do that.
