SOLD: Ack! dAck! 1.2e NOS DAC
Manufacturer's website here.
Extensive review by Head-Fi member overlunge here
Thread comparing it favorably to a Wadia 301 here.
There are also many reviews available online.
This is the last version before the release of 2.0. Many dAck! fans still consider the 1.0 series to be the definitive version because the midrange is better than the 2.0.
I sent this to Ack! Industries for a new battery about 3 months ago and they updated my original 1.2d to a 1.2e with the latest circuit updates. This includes updates made even after the release of the 2.0.
This DAC was designed to sound like vinyl. It uses a non-oversampling digital filterless design with a sealed lead acid battery providing the power. The use of a battery allows this DAC to run on the cleanest power possible by running "off the grid". As a result, you get the quietest and blackest background imaginable. This is very important for the highest quality playback. You also won't need to worry about a dirty AC line or spending money on an expensive power conditioner to get it to sound its best.
The dAck! uses high quality parts like Auricap capacitors and Caddock resistors. Most DACs in this price range sound too digital/harsh/edgy, which can be very fatiguing over long listening sessions, particularly with headphones. The Ack! dAck! sounds so natural and organic - like what real music should sound like.
As you can see the condition is excellent. In addition to sounding great, the DAC looks beautiful.
The dAck! is SOLD
I can accept PayPal. Non-cc/bank transfer is preferred for no fees. If using a credit card PayPal account, please cover the fees. My feedback link is in my signature below.
Thanks for looking.

No, this unit has the standard output level.
I know you're familiar with the dAck, Earl, but for anyone else interested, the high output option was intended for users with passive pre-amps or low power amplifiers. It does not enhance the sound quality of the dAck.
I like the standard output level because it has given me a good usable volume range on my amp. Also according to Ack Industries, "most volume potentiometers tend to operate best at high settings because they are less noisy and the channel matching is better in the higher regime."

Bump.
You'd be hard pressed to find a better source at the price. Ack Industries found a way to make a high quality source at an affordable price and you could get it even cheaper from me.
The dAck! sounds better than my previously owned MHDT Labs Constantine, CI Audio VDA-1, Red Wine Audio Monica 2, Entech 203.2, Fubar II, E-MU 0404, Sony NC555ES, and MSB Link III.

Coax input only.
If you want to use TOSlink optical, you can purchase a converter for cheap like this:
Amazon.com: Digital Fiber Optical (Toslink) to Digital Coaxial (S/PDIF) Converter: Electronics
The dAck is now SOLD
