Default iRiver Slim-X IMP 400 CD codec MP# player

I have one of these brand new, factory sealed and never opened CD players for use both as a portable source as well as a home unit connected to AC curent and to your receiver or pre-amp.

These brand new iRiver IMP-400 CD/MP3 players come in original factory sealed (never opened) box. Later models (like this one) do not include a CD player plastic carrying case and do not use the ear pod headphones - they use the wrap arounds. This model offers the best portable sound you can get - I believe as good as any $275 list home CD player, and better than some costing more than $275.

I use two of these personally - one as a portable and one in my car.

The IMP 400 is being replaced with more expensive models that only increase the error correction (which, for this unit, is 180 seconds for commercial CD, 480 seconds for MP3, and960 seconds for WMA). The difference between the IMP400 and IMP550, for instance, is that the IMP 550 has longer error correction, but I think more pre-buffering of the 550 deteriorates audio quality, very slightly, compared with the IMP400. Commercial CDs offer the best sound relaitive to ipod type units. Headroom specifically recommended the IMP 400 over other models, but with the recent discontinuance of the IMP 400, Headroom now recommends any IMP model with no longer specifying the IMP 400.

From its circuit design to its final manufacturing spec, iRiver has channeled all its efforts into delivering the best CD and MP3 sound quality. The player supports WMA and ASF formats as well as discs burned with Winamp playlists. Additional formats, such as AAC and MP3 Pro, are supported through firmware upgrades, by which iRiver can add and modify player features. The IMP-400 comes with quality iRiver wrap-around (Audio-Technica made, I think) headphones, offering far superior quality to standard CD player headphones. The player offers eight preset equalization curves and one user-defined curve (choose from normal, pop, rock, jazz, dance, classic, metal, U-Bass, or set your own EQ). Auto EQ changes automatically according to ID3 tag information, and a battery indicator lets you know when you're low. The player also performs perfectly in the face of external shocks because of iRiver's unique anti-shock algorithm, iRiverShockFree. This feature maintains supreme control over the server, so it can accurately read data even in the face of extreme vibrations, letting you listen to continuous music. An easy-to-read, four-line LCD shows every bit of information needed, and an FM tuner comes in handy when you're traveling by tracking the frequencies to maintain reception as you move. The iMP-400 uses 16 MB Flash memory to support the display of Chinese characters (traditional/simplified)--37 languages are supported. The player also recognizes discs in Packet Write format, which enables you to use CD-RW discs like PC hard disks, offering the ease of using discs and of saving and deleting songs. Finally, the player prevents its rechargeable batteries from overcharging, and a discharge function is available to fully discharges batteries before recharging, thereby preventing the diminishing of rechargeable battery capacity.
