Default FS: SB3 with n_maher Power Supply

In order to fund a major speaker upgrade, I need to sell some gear. I have a black, wireless Squeezebox 3 with a custom power supply built be n_maher. This is a must have with the SB3. It's all in excellent condition. I have the SB3 box and remote.

$350 plus shipping. Add 3% for pp. Here is a pic with them in my system. I will try to take a closer pic tonight. The SB3 is on the top shelf and the ps is on the the middle shelf.

No discussion, I promise.

Here's a better picture of the power supply.

And heck, just to show you what the guts look like:

Potential buyers should be aware that this power supply, by itself, would run every bit of half Mike's asking price so this really is a hell of a deal. If I didn't already own two SB's I'd buy it.

What would you like to know? Basically it's a linear regulated, low ripple, high current output power supply. There's no better single voltage PS that I'm aware of, if there was I'd use it.

For more technical information have a look at amb's site, specifically the sigma11. He's the circuit designer, I'm just the builder.

Any chance of selling the PSU alone? I would take it!

If you are willing to split them up I may be interested in the SB3 alone depending on the price. I might pull the trigger and just buy both though...decisions decisions.

Do you have a link to your personal experience with the unit? Doing a search one thread directed me to headwize, but I can't seem to find your thoughts on it.

Also I assume it comes with the cables required to hookup the SB3? <- might be a ? for tyrion.

Does the PSU hum, and does it get hot?

Not sure if I've really posted them. Quickly (to avoid the ban stick) if you're using the analog outputs of the SB3 it's absolutely necessary to run a HQ power supply. To my ears it made a world of difference. And the measured specs back this up, the stock PS is just that, a POS.

All transformers make noise of some kind, but I'd be shocked if you could hear this PS from more than a foot away. And it gets warm, but hardly what I'd call hot and nothing that I'd think would require any special precautions.

And what if you are using the digital outs? I have a Bolder modded Elpac now which is why I am hesitant. I hope we don't get in trouble for discussing but you are helping a tentative buyer decide to pull the trigger or not. If you prefer PM me.

From what I know about the Boulder modded Elpac I would feel pretty comfortable saying that the sigma11 is a superior PS. Now, whether or not that would translate into an audible difference I can't say having never been able to compare the two. But from what I've read all the Boulder mods do is change the cord and replace a few caps. The sigma is just about the most technically advanced PS you're likely to come across. As a commercial piece of gear you could expect a price somewhere between $700 and $1000 for the PS alone. Again, the package of the SB3 and PS together at this price is absurdly cheap.

Also, even when used a transport some folks in Cali were able to measure a slight difference using a sigma11 vs. the stock PS in terms of bit transfer (I believe). Now, there's a huge debate as to whether or not that would make a difference but my personal feeling is that everything builds off of the foundation of the power supply so money spent wisely there is money well spent.
