I'm selling 2 of the last AlienDACs I have built. For those that wanted one of mine before that didn't get a chance to get it, here's your last chance.
SOLD The first is a purely portable solution in a black hammond 1455C802 case with 3.5mm output. This is regulated USB powered at 4.7V and among the standard high end parts, it has a pair of fantastic Mundorf MCap ZN caps on the output instead of the cheap BlackGates that people usually put here. The high quality film caps are night and day vs electrolytics and are what I use in my home system. This AlienDAC is going for $110.
SOLD The second is a home based solution in a silver hammond 1455C1202 case with RCA output. This one has a custom high quality voltage regulator in there and requires a 9V+ wallwart to run. The main reason this is externally powered is that with the addition of an external voltage regulator, I overclocked the DAC chip to 5.4V instead of the regular voltage for higher performance. The output of my regulator is a whole lot cleaner than the PC USB power and at a higher voltage, the DAC performs better . I chose to use exquisite AuriCap output caps for a slightly more neutral sound vs the slightly warmer MCap ZNs. Again, no comparison to any BlackGate or other "high quality" electrolytics. This one is going for $120. PENDING
Make sure to ask me about interconnect cables to go with the package, I have a few that I can include at a very reasonable price. All mid - very high quality.
Photos will be posted tonight if these aren't sold by then.
I can attest that these Alien DACs are amazingly built, and sound better than vanilla alien DACs. What really segregated them for me is the extra clarity, likely from the top-of-the-line DACs. I know because there's one sitting right beside me feeding my Arietta + proLINE 750s and it sounds great. Good clean first USB DAC. Plus a great head-fier to boot.
