Default FS (Aus): Millett Mini Max kits

Update: The group buy is now closed. I will continue to update this post as things progress.

All parts received 30/10/08. Payment and shipping in progress.

I am making up some kits for Millett Hybrid Mini Maxes to sell on a not-for-profit basis to fellow Australians. Each build is based around the group-buy case that is currently going on. All parts are top-shelf straight from the official BOM from Mouser, Digikey, Beezar and Sonic Craft. My BOM is attached to this post.

Current estimate for parts for the default build is US$220.
International shipping will be split evenly amongst all parties.
Domestic shipping will be registered and insured parcel post.
There will be a very small handling fee for bagging up parts.

In addition to the base build, I am offering parts choices on:
Case colour: silver or black from group buy
Vol knob colour: silver or black from Partspipe
Output transistors: anything from Beezar
Electrolytic coupling caps: Muse ES from Beezar or Black Gate NX from Sonic Craft
Output resistors: 10-100 ohm from Beezar
I am happy to add any other small items people want from Mouser or Digikey.

If anyone wants me to do a full build for them, I might be inclined to do it for a small fee to cover materials and certainly not a money making exercise. But I could only do a couple - first in, best dressed.

People involved and their current status will be updated here:

PM sent !

Will there be any issue "customising" things such as coupling caps or transistors (in terms of logistics) ?

I got your PM, and sent one back. If you are still having trouble, I will email you directly. But watching this thread is a safe bet too!

Very much like that, but in a more compact case.

It will depend very heavily on how the exchange rate pans out and how much shipping costs. I would be *very* surprised if it came in over $400. But realistically, the reason I am doing this is because if anyone was keen to build one, a group buy like this will be cheaper than going it alone or buying parts from Farnell/RS.

I don't believe so. So long as I can buy it from one of the four stores I will be ordering from, I will be able to re-package it and send it on. In terms of passing on costs, shipping will be split evenly between all parties regardless, then everyone just pays for their share of the parts, after currency conversion and fees. Payment will be Paypal only.

Anyway, this seems to be enough interest for me to make a BOM. Watch this space for more info!

Cheers

Somebody raised in a PM that Glass Jar Audio sells regular Millett Max kits for US$190. I want to make it very clear that I will not be able to beat that price, nor am I trying to.

This is intended for Australian buyers of the new Mini Max, who want the spectacular case that tomb is organising to along with their amp. Also, I'm hoping that some of us will go for Black Gates and boutique transistors to put some *really* special amps into the world......

Cheers!

Please find attached a preliminary BOM. I haven't had a thorough chance to check it yet so there may be some oversights, but I will do that tomorrow. Any opinions or suggestions are welcome.

In summary, it looks like about US$220 for the default build including the case. At a worst-case (hopefully!) exchange rate of 0.6, that is just under AU$370. Plus all shipping, under $400 should be doable if we get myself plus 3-4 others.

Note that this does not include the wallwart to keep local shipping down. They can be purchased from Jaycar or Altronics, or I can include them.

Questions and comments are welcome!

I think the default build looks good (not convinced that blackgates will be worth the extra expense !).

So at this point, should I ask tomb to remove my name from the group buy, or should I wait for confirmation from you ?

Also, fingers crossed for an improved exchange rate ! (it was at 68c as of a minute ago !)

Nor am I...... but if somebody else goes for them, I will probably join in!

Just wait a couple of days at this point. I've had a lot of nibbles, but most people are still put off by the price. I think they are expecting starving student type prices. If it were just you and me, domestic shipping would eat up the international shipping savings for you. But as soon as I get one or two more confirmations, we can move forward.

This is absolutely critical really. With the cases, I will just pay for them as soon as I receive the PayPal invoice from tomb. With the other parts, I will have the order primed and ready and only jump when I am happy with the rate NAB offers.
