I am looking for a pair of easy-to-drive phones to use w/ my laptop. Been reading some past threads about the K240 series, and the K240S got to top of my list....then I found out about the new K271 Studio, and now I can't decide!
Could anyone with either/both of those could share some experience and shed some light? Are the new K271S better than its predecessor? How does it stack up to the K240S?
TIA!

Sorry, I haven't tried it, yet. My main concern is that i usually dislike closed constructions, if there's a similar semi-open construction availabe. For me, whenever I tried such siblings, the closed constructions sounded a bit more compressed (sometimes slightly nasal) and prominent in the upper mids, whereas with semi-open/open siblings there usually seemed to be a shrieky tendency in the open constructions. In my experience the Beyerdynamic DT931 is rather unique in it's construction - insofar, that to my ears it seems to combine the disadvantages of a closed and open construction together. I guess, I'd call it "The Sizzler" It's still a good headphone, though - unlike "The shrill Shrieker" (= Sennheiser HD470).

Favs: AKG K240S - "The new Groovalizer" as well as Beyerdynamic DT531 & DT440 - "The old Groovalizer" & "The Funkalizer"
Ha! I know the feeling. It has been nearly impossible to go back to closed phones ever since I got the K501 and recently the K1000s. I still use my AT W2002s once a while, but I much prefer the openness and comfort of the AKGs.
I tried the Beyerdynamics at the Head-Fi Chicago meet, and let's just say that I wasn't too impressed. Guess I just like the AKG's "house" sound.
Anyone else w/ experiences to share?

The K-240s are quite comfortable and light, although they had no bass extension to speak of, and the sound picture to me was 'disjointed'. It didn't quite come together, and I returned them a few days after purchase.
In Magic77's thread i posted about a post I made a little while back, yet no one really responded to that post. I don't really understand it. I guess it must be an in-crowd sort of thing. Anyway, my post should still be there, an easy search should turn it up.

I'm actually enjoying the K271S more than the others. I like the K171S as well, but the edge has to go to the K271S. I also like the K240S, but I feel the 271S has better sound overall.
I did read your mini-review in Magic77's original thread. I have tried diff. Senn with diff mods and cables, so I have somewhat of a reference to your comparison...
Personally I am not too concerned about that last few low note in general; most music I listen needs fast, clean bass instead of bloated, muddy ones. Given that you had the 271 for a while now, has your impression changed about the phone?
BTW, FWIW, Todd@Headroom told me that he prefers the 271 over the 240s....
