Where to get a 18" extension cable for Shure's poor cable design?
My long extension cable that came with my E500's has an intermittent short in the right channel (new right out of the box). It is also too long and doesn't have a right angle male plug. I would like to get a 18" to 22" female to right angle male stereo 1/8' cable. Where can I find such a cable? I have tried RS on line but did not see what I need. I bought a female to male right angle adaptor but when I run it also will short.
Why did Shure come up with such an overall poor cable design? What an awful place for a heavy plug right in the middle of your lower chest or middle back and no way to plug into your player and have a near flush fitting.
I'm still can't find the cable I'm looking for. Can anyone point me to one or have any idea where I can get one? It seems like everyone with the Shure E500's (and all future Shure's) would need a cable like this. How does everyone plug the E500's into their player's and have a flush mount with the stright plug?
Ken over at ALO made a Cryo extension for Iceroid see the following: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showpo...&postcount=698 and Shure E5c concern
(Note: He no longer has his e500's and so he has sold this cable)
I haven't had issues with my e500 cable yet, but would consider getting one from ALO. The ALO Cryo Mini2Mini I bought is sweet. Thinking about upgrading that one to the Jumbo Cryo down the road.
Just contact Ken and find out how much for him to make one for you. Me may also be able to make it with some of his other types of wire as well.
Hope this Helps.
An even better question might be: is it possible to do a total cable replacement - a cable-ectomy, as it were? It would be quite nice if the Shures had the nice braided design of the Westones, which are flexible and sturdy.

This is buy far the best idea. Here is a picture of my problems. I wear a heart rate monitor and the first plug is at the exact spot and I get cable noise. When I run it bounces off it and the plugs have micro shorts. Next I keep my Nano in my pocket and I'm forced to put it in bottom up because of the long straight plug (where is the right angle). This causes the excess tied cord to hang out of my pocket. the weight of this causes the plug to short at the Nano also. Why aren't most people have a problem with the straight plug into their players? If you use the E500's with a Shuffle the straight plug would double the length of it.
Strange that others don't seem to be having cord plug problems with the E500's. How does eveyone deal with the straight plug sticking out? I did find an extension with a right angle male on e-bay. It is 1 meter long but will have to do.
