Default Whats up with those antennas on grado headphones?

Whats the point of them? I know they're required for sound purposes, but what do they do exactly/

The posts have no sonic purpose. Where did you get that idea?

Well I mean they must have some purpose(meaning theyre not just there for looks), because they really take away from the looks of the headphone big time.

So theyre for adjusting then? Ok. Couldnt they think of another way to adjust them without that atrocious design?

I might be making a fool of myself here, but I think I read that John or Joe said that they did a good bit of tweaking of length of adjustment rod for the best sonic qualities. Whoever finds the article with what I'm talking about will be awarded 500 points.

EDIT: Is all the hate on this guy necessary?

They aren't the most functional method, either... It's just how Grado decided to do it.

EDIT: But seriously, who told you they were antennas designed for improved sound quality???

It's actually one of my favorite aesthetic parts of Grados. To each his own.

this is the simplest way to adjust the length of the headband while being able to rotate the earpads. I don't think they care much for looks, but they do have their signature 50's look that many like. I think the antenna's fit right in, IMO they would be weird without them.

The length and shape of the rod affect its resonance with certain frequencies, sort of like a tuning fork

I agree that the antennas are a crucial part of the retro Grado design.

I believe they also help dissipate EMF to the atmosphere, reducing flux capacitance by a few thousand nano-microns.

I replaced my stock antennae with gold-plated rhodium. Night and day improvement. I can't believe that I used to tolerate the stock posts...
