Default What should be my next can?

i'm thinking between AKG701, a set of Audio Technicas, or Ultrasones. Grado kinda rubbed me the wrong way when i tried out the sr80s. should i give grado another shot? btw i plan on getting a little dot amp next. solid state so probably an MKV not sure still between that or a darkvoice 336i i kno its tubes lol.

K701 will be entirely different from your current set of 'phones - very large soundstage, lean bass, very neutral all around with lots of detail. I can't stand overpowering bass (DT770, HD6X0) and K701 and DT880 suits me perfectly.

K701s are extremely picky when it comes to amping (loves tubes) and I have never tried darkvoice, so I can't really comment on that.

i love my bass. the hd600 with the stock cable didn't have much but with the hd650 cable they def got a kick in that department.

ok so the k701s are out. what about the grados, ultrasones, and audio technicas. i'm looking at a price range of $200-$500

Grados generally has moderate amount of bass, except for GS1000 (which I have only tried on short period) which had too much bass for my taste.
I never tried ultrasones- so I cant suggest them
Audio technica AD2000 have HUGE DEEP bass with speed and accuracy (which is extremely hard to do) and that's the only bass-heavy 'phones that I didn't mind. They go around 600-700 new though.

I generally recommend W5000s, ES7s(portable) A900s but W5000s, ES7s don't have huge bass... A900 is all right and little more balanced than DT770s..
AD2000 can be had for under 500$ sometimes in sales forum.
I suggest that you search upon ultrasones - they may fit your needs at reasonable price.

daym the w5000 are $700 lol. seems like the audio techs are mainly good at the higher end of the money spectrum. oh well. so i'll look at some grados or ultrasones. they seem to fit my price range better.

Good choice. I have some with APS v2 cable, and they are like closed HD600 with aftermarket cable (at least as good as HD600 with HD650 cable, probably better). Very natural and organic sounding, with good timbre, and with stock cable they are similar to HD600 with stock cable.

In that price range - My Ultrasone HFI780 are only 125 hours into a 400 hour burn-in, and they are sounding very nice. But they still quite a ways to burn in still, so I am trying to avoid direct comparo's till then. So far electronic and new age and rock are their forte at this young age.
