Default Upgrading DT 770 pro's with new cable

I'm new to the world of headphone mod's so I had a few questions.

1. I read (in these forums) that upgrading the cables on a pair of DT 770's would help fix the lack of midrange, and I'm hoping increase the high end as well. True?

2. Where is a good place to get them modded? Is it possible to do this myself? I'm pretty handy with a soldiering iron, not McGuyver grade, but pretty good.

any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

No.

You need equalizer for this.

Can't fix the bump on the car with new repaint.

I see.

But wouldn't it be more like putting a better fuel injector into a car that already runs okay?

I'm just kidding, but my real question than is why are people so psyched on changing cables?

I'd better not open that big old can of worms right now'here.

Seriously, if you can't live without great midrange, better sell your DT 770 and buy something like Grados or Senns, you can hrow awa a ton of money, trying to improve DT 770's midrange, but in the end you'll come away with nothing.

I don't think they have bad mids, I think maybe they're just hidden behind the bass. I was hoping to even it out a bit.

Hard to say. You won't get a complete other headphone simply by changing cables. Lol, there are two versions of -I believe- Cardas. They're exactly the same though people reported an improvement.

Not to say good cables are BS for good sound quality. I wish I could tell you more. I only worked with Mogami and low-fi cables. The difference was that the Mogami opened up the sound and made it sound cleaner.

personally, for the amount of money a cable upgrade would be, you could easily try another pair of cans and see if they are what you are missing. IMO thats a better deal, even if they contrast a bit, you then have two good headphones.

good point. Can anyone suggest a pair that has the bass range of the DT 770's plus a nice pronounced high end. Also! the most important thing I like about the DT 770's is they are VERY comfortable. Sometimes I do marathon listening sessions and with my Grado's SR60's and SR125's it was quite painful.

Thanks for all the help.

I really like the Denon D2000. Un-modded, they have some serious earth-shaking bass with nice detail and mids. MarkL mod them, they lose a little of the bass (which is still VERY good and strong) but the mids clean up very nicely.

Don't pay too much attention to the cable, I think it's quite nice and have kept my stock cable on both D2000 and D5000. I have compared stock D2000 cable to a Mogami recabled D2000. Both are very nice and I don't think I'm missing much with stock cable. Maybe I'll upgrade, likely not for a while.
