Ultrasone pro900 a decent alternative to ED9?
I have a pair of pro900's and they sound quite good.
I thought about returning them for a cheaper pair of HFI780's.
So I picked up a pair of 780's and they don't cut it compared to the 900's.
(I also don't like the long cable and you can't remove it like I can on the 900's)
Now I'm afraid I'm hooked on the quality sound of the 900's and I'm curious about the ED9's. Since most shops will not let you return headphones- I am hesitant to drop that kind of cash.
For those that have tried both- Is the difference subtle or night and day?
worth the $700-$800 extra?
Is there a shop that will take returns?

I found the 750s very nice and thats probably where my upgrade stops :P

The Edition 9 does not have a removable cable either. It's hardwired to each side individually.

Good question. My Pro 900 is on its way and I am also eager to know. Meanwhile, do a search in these forum on the ALO re-cabled HFI 780, the review has it that it is 90% up there of the Ed9. I have not heard the ALO re-cabled HFI 780, but re-cabling usually do not make night and day changes to the sound signature. If you found the stock HFI 780 "don't cut it" for you, chances are you may actually prefer the sound signature of Pro 900 as being right on the money.

In a listening session comparing the Pro750 (not the 780), the Pro900 and the Edition 9, the Pro900 had a noticable different sound signature than the 750, and to my ears closer to the Edition. I couldn't resist and I'm enjoying the pro900 now!

well ultrasone are amazing. my dj1pro have remained one of my favourites up to 400$ and im sure the 900 have much to say over them.

I realized that I would be in constant wonder to the ED9- so I pulled the trigger. I found a decent price and saved over $700 compared to some resellers. (Not sure how some shops can sell at such discount- I assume it's on the up and up)
If the ED9's deliver a smooth version of pro900- I'll be quite happy for years to come.

How do you guys live with the headband? its clamping down on my head, and my neck is sooo sore after long listening, still sore...
i tried to losening it up but its still be tight and putting alot of pressure on my head.

I don't really have a problem with the clamp now that I got used to it with the pro 900 and e9 but if you really cant support it and want to loosen it up you can try to remove the 2 headband sides.
I did that to my pro 2500 that had one of the side broken due to early pro 2500 issue with the headband material and it got more comfortable.
The adjusting mechanism still works with the 2 sides removed.

Hmmmm, your problems sound weird...how big is your head?
Here is two things to try (I've had my time coping with Ultrasone headbands, and while the best solution was being bald, it is not recommended for the sole purpose of listening to music...):
1. Try having the headband rest more to the back than in the middle on top. Small rotation of the cups should not cause issues in terms of SQ.
2. Try letting the cups out as far as possible (using the extending mechanisms). They tend to apply the least pressure like that and the headband then puts less pressure on your noggin' (although the weight is now entirely on the cups).
3. If you are jewish, wear your kipa =) (If not - can always get one).

Hmm yea my solution might be a bit extreme.
You should try what malos said first, the kipa one looks particularly interesting  .

Its giving me bad headaches/migrain as well.. i dont think my head is that big? hehehe roughly 11.5 cm across/horizontally.
1). I do wear it at the top of my head... as recommended for the best S-Logic experience :P
2). This felt sagging, more weight to my side, but less pressure, but unable to support it i think
also tried to bend the top headband outwards, that gaved me some relief but eventually my temples are still taking a lot of pressure...
