yeah, i found those (as i mentioned in the post), anyone know if they will work with the us transmitter (sedir800c). it reads like you have to have the sedir800cII transmitter, but i wonder if they put disclaimer that there so people won't order them alone and expect them to work somehow. or will they only work with that transmitter? anyone know?

You can only order the headsets (model SE-DHP800) from Japan, and I would recommend you to order from www.pricejapan.com. From what I saw, it would cost you around 12495 Yen ($107 approximately) + transport.

www.pricejapan.com base their prices on the best price that can be found on another japanese site www.rakuten.co.jp.

Here is a translated version of the site where I found that price:
http://translate.google.com/translat...ial%26hs%3DWKW

I just ordered a set of SE-DIR2000C from them and until now, the transaction is smooth. I still have to receive it, but at least I have a tracking number . I've made some research and they seem to be serious and trustworthy.

The way it works is that they have items in stock (called hot items), and items for which you can make a self price quote. You have to input some basic information, such as the price of the item on www.rakuten.co.jp, and they get back to you with a quotation including transport, etc.

Good luck!

I also purchased the Pioneer SE-DIR2000C this month, from Japan Audio. I'm very pleased with the sound quality and the IR transmission. I am even able to walk into an adjacent room and receive clear transmission, when I've stepped behind the wall between the rooms. I suspect the IR is entering through the doorway and bouncing off the wall to my headphone.

On an important note the headphone power adapter is rated at 100 volts, 1000 mah or 1 amp. Plugging a 100 volt transformer into 120 volts will cause it to run hotter, and although its output is a 'regulated' 12 volt DC I measured the output at roughly 10% higher voltage than another 120 volt ac to 12 volt DC adapter that I own.

I decided not to risk the headphone circuitry with the supplied 100 volt adapter. I cut off the plug and soldered it onto my 120 volt AC to 12 volt 1.6 amp adapter that I happened to have from another product. I can't be certain that the 100 volt Pioneer supplied adapter would ever burn out or cause damage to my Pioneer SE-DIR2000C headphone, but I feel much safer this way.

Aurion,

I'm too very pleased with the sound quality! The bass is to my eyes very good and there ain't no noise at all. I tried a DTS-DD-THX demo DVD and the sound is really impressive. The only channel I'm still not able to hear is the front one, but it doesn't matter that much anyway.

Regarding the 100V transformer, I also noticed that though it was supposed to be 12V, I measured that the output was instead 15.5 V DC. So I deducted that on the contrary it was not a regulated one. But anyway I decided to buy a voltage converter from 120VAC to 100VAC such as the first one in the following link: http://www.voltageconverters.com/japan_voltage.html. I also considered to cut the plug and join it to another transformer as you did but finally chose the other option just to make sure I do not have any problems whatsoever with the warranty. But I'm sure that your option is good also.

Hi Mike,
Don't quite understand what you mean by, 'The only channel I'm still not able to hear is the front one'.

I've checked out all of the line inputs, and remote buttons, and have not spotted anything amiss. About the only thing that I would like is an English version of the manual. In the meantime I downloaded a pdf of the SE-DIR800C instructions, which I've found to be informative.

Hi Aurion,

I also downloaded the SE-DIR800C instructions and found it to be helpful. Unfortunately I don't think that there will be an available English manual in the foreseeable future because I talked to a Pioneer's sales representative two weeks ago who attended a presentation of the Pioneer's new line of products for 2007, and he didn't see the SE-DIR2000C.

As for the front channel, I meant the center channel in a 5.1 configuration when you watch DTS or DD soundtracks. I perfectly hear the rear left and rear right channels for example, but not the center front channel, the one that normally outputs voice.

BTW I found a link where you can download DTS 5.1 and 6.1 demo files from a Swedish radio. I found some of these very interesting to listen to with the headphones. I just burned them on a CD and listened to them with my DVD player via the optical digital out. The files are all .WAV files. Just in case you are interested, here is the link: http://www.sr.se/cgi-bin/mall/index.asp?ProgramID=2446

I recommend you to download Saga and Norway Demo which are both in DTS-ES, 6.1 Discrete.

This is a very important decision, Legbone. The SQ of the headphones that come with the 800c is very poor compared to those of Pioneer's costlier DH models. I have both the SE-XBox (same as the DIR-1000) and the 800c. The good news is that the 800's transmitter is excellent and the headphones of the high end systems work perfectly with it. I bought a second DIR-1000 headphone to go with the SE-XBox sometime ago and it works beautifully with DIR800. I purchased mine from AudioCubes.com for $229.

Trust me, this represents a major upgrade for the 800. The only downside is that one of you will be stuck with using the 800's headphone.
