Yea, I know, but it is sometimes hard to resist comparing them when they are right in front of you.
They do have a special sound unique to their own, apparently.

How do you guys do that with music while on the road, when you'd use e.g. IEMs? You just don't do that anymore while trying to get in sync with the presentation of the Ultrasones?

Having them burned in for like 33 hours now and the sound is improving. Used the pink noise last night wich I downloaded. Getting more depth in the music. Highs are getting better but they still don't sound good IMO. But still a long way to go. And still know it's worth it

IEMs, Charles, what are those?
On the go, I use Ultrasones mostly, 'cept when it's pouring rain, in which case either the KSC75 or PX-100 are deployed. But I haven't noticed any difficulty switching between them.

Did you use the other cans while you were getting used to the Ultrasones? Did you get into their presentation of sound easily?

Charles,
You're missing the whole point of the Ultrasone s-logic presentation. The Ultrasone s-logic presentation is much more in-line with how most of us hear most of our music to begin with, i.e. the presentation is much more natural and "speaker" like. Rather, it's all the other headphones and IEMs that are presenting the music in a way that makes one keep "trying to get in sync with the presentation".
Why do you think there was a need for the (in)famous crossfeed circuit in the first place? The s-logic presentation is just another method to help solve the inherently artificial headphone presentation of music. Just as stereo was supposed to "solve" the problems of mono and multichannel sound is supposed to "solve" the problems of stereo. In fact, Sennheiser even had a DSP surround sound processor for headphones several years back that never really took off (it wasn't all that good, kind of noisy), so these ideas and various attempts at solutions to the problem have been around for quite awhile.
Anyway, to answer your question, when I listen to music while on the road, if I'm in my car then I listening through the car's audio system which would mean car speakers and absolutely no stereo imaging whatsoever. If I'm on the train I would be using my portable rig which includes a headphone amp with crossfeed and a good pair of IEMs. While not as nice my Proline 750s the UM2s are very listenable and much better than hearing all the dumb cell phone conversations that people insist on having while on public transportation.

Now not quite so "new" to Head-Fi but not new to headphones, audio, music and especially jazz.

My question pertains solely about getting used to the presentation—not afterwards—as all over this thread it is advised to not use your regular headphones while the Ultrasone is breaking in, and you are getting used to the presentation.
I listened to a pair of broken-in 2500's for 30 minutes straight, I just couldn't get used to it, although I really want to.

I received my KSC75 after I got my first Ultrasone, so I had been listening mainly to my PX-100.
But, TBH, I wasn't much into headphones before the Ultrasones. I listened exclusively to loudspeakers for nearly 30 years. So I connected with the PROline 2500s immediately, since their presentation is so loudspeaker-like to begin with.
On top of that, my speakers of preference for the past three years happen to be omni-directional and the more diffuse presentation of the Ultrasones is quite similar in delivering that same sense of space; more like sitting in a concert venue than being pinned-down to one single sweet spot.
So I was really lucky in this regard, since I needed virtually no adjustment to them. OTOH, I completely sympathize with folks who struggle to adjust to them. It does take time coming from regular headphones that shout directly down your ear canal, as opposed to involving the entire ear as one is accustomed to listening with back in the real world.
(And the only other headphone that approached this sensation among the many I tried at the Benelux Meet were the K-1000s.)
So, for me, the Ultrasones were a match made in heaven pretty much from the get-go and I feel that I'm getting essentially the same experience whether I'm listening to my speakers or my headphones!

Clear. Seems you lucked out on this one. Wish I got to spend more time with the Ultrasones during the meet, but I didn't want to claim them the whole day.
Guess I'm going with Kees' modded SR325i's. I've found in them the qualities I like from the ER-4S. It's the cheapest option of what I liked at the meet.
