My thoughts are pretty much the same as Skylab's except I don't know if I can accept it and relegate them to portable use. I would really prefer more neutrality. They isolate quite well though.

$200 isn't just throwaway money to me so I'm going to try and work with them a bit longer before I decide to sell.

The HD6*0 are not portable headphones. They are very capable headphones with a good source and amp. They leak quite a bit of sound outside so I would not use them on public transportation. I suggest you get a closed can.

Listen to the HFI-780 and HD25-1 II if you get a chance. I like the 780s better but the HD25 is more portable.

I think they are a much better value than Senn HD25-1 for a similar price, and if people want a closed and isolating non-sound-leaking portable CAN then these are a better choice than the SR-225 too. I prefer the sound of the 780 over both of those (they all have the soundstage issue, except the Grado and 780 are wide but not deep, and the HD25 are neither).

The comparison between the 780 and Denon D2000 is like comparing the AKG701 to the Senn HD650 - The 780 would be the quick fast sharp one, and the Denon is the laid back and softer edged one (except the 780 has the bass the 701 is missing, I'm sure you get the point).

Nevertheless, I like all of the headphones I just listed, I just don't want to own all of them. GASP! DID I JUST SAY THAT? The 12 step program is working...

So the real question is: Are the Edition9 really worth their price compared to the ALO-780?

This is a very personal thing in my opinion. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. For myself if I found the UE9 the sound that I liked and enjoyed and used it as a reference it would be worth having. I almost had a second pair until I got the 780 which is close enough for me when using it as my second UE9. I canceled my second UE9 order and spent that money on other toys like a second Lavry DA10.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but why would you spend that much money on a pair of headphones you already had? If you already owned an Ed9, why get another?

Why not? If this is your hobby, there should be no reason for anything you do in the hobby, other than the fact that you enjoy your hobby. The same could be said for anything else. Some people in this world have the money at their disposal, and some don't. It's their choice how they spend it and there is no reason for them to justify their expenditures to anybody (maybe other than their spouse or family ). Personally I don't have that kind of disposable income, but if I want to buy something, I would never want to have to justify it to an onlooker.

What I meant was what is the rationale behind having two? In what situation would it be beneficial to have two sets instead of one? I wasn't trying to make it out like buying two was bad, but I think you thought I meant it that way. I'd really just like to know. If the answer is "I just want to have two," then so be it.
