Do you think that the 780s would be a nice complement to my DT880s ?
I really love my Beyers for their details and the sweet treble and they sound really good with my tube amp.
The problem is that I can't use them in bed because they leak too much, that's the reason why I have the AKG K271. I know that the 780s will have a better bass than the K271s but what about the mids, the treble and the soundstage ?
Will they leak too much ? (I don't want to be killed by my wife )
Thanks

Well Skilab. For you, which of the two, has better bass and mids (more lifelike)? it or your DT990.
And about the separation (third time), which is better in fast and complex music?
I want this headphone, specially for music; and because it is closed.

I haven't had time to do the "separation" comparison you have asked for, sorry.
I prefer the DT990's sonic signature, but that is a personal preference, AND remember my DT990's are 600 ohm.
I agree that driver matters (may be 50-60%) but it doesn't make headphone sound as it is just because of a diver. That is why if you place L3000 driver's in other headphone, I bet it wouldn't sound even 75% close to the original one.
And I don't think that you can make your proline 750 band grip tighter by bending it in, not for long at list.
i don't *think* i can make the grip looser, i *know* i can because i've already done it. there is metal inside of the white portion on the top of the headband. i bent it and made it looser by around 1 inch. now there's no clamp on my head. pretty comfy. and it does stay that way, unless u bend it back. same for the other way around, you can make it tighter if you want (although i don't know why anyone would want to, it's pretty tight as it is)
also i don't know how different the enclosure of the ed9 is relative to the prolines; it doesn't seem an awful lot different. i can see how adding wood or something else drastic would change the sound, otherwise i don't think there will be too much of a difference. certainly, as i mentioned, there are people who specifically said that pl750 in particular equaled about 90% of the performance of the ed9. so even if i was to take that as an exaggeration, it would still mean they're quite similar.
Anyone? Outer ear cartilage contact on the inside of the cups?
Well the cups are shallow....
Mine are nowhere near burned in but I think these may be too forward for me. As of right now they also seem to be tinny. I will say there is something about them that makes me just want to lie down, close my eyes and get swept into the music. Maybe since I haven't worn a closed headphone in years there's some acclimation that must occur.
So far I like their sound with electronic (EBM,Trance,...) and classical (Baroque, small ensembles, organ...) but not so much with thrash- everything else seems to become subordinate to cymbals and guitars sound chalky.... right now listening to Forbidden- Forbidden Evil and it doesn't sound terrible, some sibilance on vocals. I think these are very revealing of recording quality.
These AREN'T final thoughts and I just received these 5 hours ago so I still have burn-in to go through along with trying out other equipment so don't let this damn your decision.
Now for the only test that matters to me- The Kraftwerk Compliance Test! Either they play nice with, or they're out.
Just for reference I usually enjoy the analytical and would consider myself an AKG guy.
Old boy, but you have the headphones (no other have the same headphones (not as far as I know); and for you, that is a very easy to distinguish. After all; you aren't a novice in the audio, aren't you?
I will not bother you anymore if you give me a honest answer...

Hehehehe, no worries mate. It wasn't my intention to overload you asking for comparisons, but sometimes knowing how something behaves compared to what we know, is the only way to get closer to the "picture".
