I am still very patiently awaiting a Proline 750 vs HFI-780 review. Any kind soul out there who can help out here?
I just received the HFI-780s, so I should be able to make some comparisons following the burn-in.
Here are a couple of photos showing the HFI-680 (left; background) & HFI-780 (right; foreground) side-by-side:
Unboxing photos and some other initial comments may be found HERE.
Entering burn-in bizarroland, I'm already hearing the high-frequency "sizzle" that Skylab and some others have reported here, as well as rollercoaster bass extension, so it's clear to me that these are gonna take a good long while to settle in.
Could someone please post a pic with the HFI 780 on their noggin? I'd love to see how big the ear cups actually are... they're neither really supra- nor circumaural, right?
did you also read the part about them not being burnt in, and what burn in on ultrasones is like?

Yes. The point was Dexdexter also has the 680 - a model I was also considering before buying the 780 and just from initial listening he says the 680 sound very even which could be more to my liking.

i don't think it's going to be much of a surprise. a lot of people prefer the tonal balance of the new 780s, but since the 750s use the same drivers as the ed9's and the 780s don't. they're not as technically capable as the 750s (extension, detail retrieval, among other things). i bet with a bit of eq'ing i can make the 750s sound very very similar to the ed9. some people have already told me this.
I really don't think these are going to change character any further. They now have 300+ hours on them, and they haven't changed at all in the last 100 hours. They remain a very enjoyable, very lively listen. There is still some extra energy in the treble. This benefits some recordings, and detracts from others. I like the 780's, but I would not want them as my only headphone. For portable use, they are better with the Meier Move than the Qables iQube, since the Meier has a slightly softer treble than the iQube. Also, I prefer the 780's on the WooAudio3 out of all my tube amps, as it's the softest in the treble.
But again, some people will LOVE the 780's signature with ALL recordings. The treble doesn't really stand out because of the very full bass. And the bass really is awesome.
