I got these off ebay, and loving the sound so far.
I've already replaced the jack with a gold-plated 3.5mm neutrik plug... didn't make much difference on the SQ though. Some folks at the Head-wize forum has given me the AKG service parts # to fix up these headphones
Just want to know some history behind this headphone. seems like the only difference between this version and the current version is the gold cover, silver 1/4in plug, and have detachable cable.

Colour me jealous. I've been looking for a pair for a while. Nice score.

Yeah - the K140 led to the K141 and K240, which use the same driver, but obviously different housings.
Since it's a silver K141, it has the same driver as you'd find in a K240 Sextett - but without the passive drivers in the baffle, of course.
Not much in the way of bass, but sometimes that's a good thing.
Every now and then i consider getting a silver (or black) K141, but they get bid up higher than i want to pay most of the time. What I've got is an early 80's K141-M. Gold cups and a ridged cable. I like the way it sounds quite a bit, but it's less comfortable than my other AKGs, so i almost never use it.

You remember that black one in the auction with the K270S a little while back? I have it half disassembled because I didn't want to clean it up and restore it or anything, instead I was just going to part it out but never got around to actually doing it, but you can have it if you want, or Eric can have it if you don't want a pair that requires a bit of work (he likes the really nasty phones for some reason).
It's not that they're filthy, it's that they fit into my budget as a cheap bastard.
Some of my AKG purchases have been less than stellar in financial terms, compared to stuff you've found, Fitz, but that's probably because i only casually search for K240 variations.
The thing is, there are so many of them out there, and there are so many versions that automated search queries are annoying, bordering on useless. So I've probably missed dozens of good scores.
In some sense it's just so i can lord it over people who Pay Too Much. Like the ATH-A900 i picked up for $51. I'm actually starting to regret that because it needs new pads and came with a broken wing. Audio-Technica must be f'ing joking, what they charge for the pads. Pads that belong on $10 headphones from BigLots, and it'd cost me $50 after shipping to get a pair through audiocubes2. It's a damn travesty. Another $35 and possibly another $16 for shipping if i want to replace rather than repair the wing.
I'm not sure i care for the A-T sound signature at all, and I'm starting to not like my prospects for reselling them.
But yeah, if philodox doesn't want 'em, I'll take 'em.

apparently they dont have any of those elastics, im going to look into making one myself DIY style . I'm temporarily using a hookup wire to tie the headband down to my head's size... works well.. but its really ugly.
in that case, use hair elastics. Smaller diameter (in both senses) is generally better.

Thanks for the offer Fitz, feel free to send those to ericj... my vanity demands a silver pair.

yea.. that's what I was thinking of using. Still looking for something of the suitable size and length. It's currently somewhat usable because i tied the loose elastic and reduced it's length. It doesn't stretch as far, but I really dont have that big of a head anyways. It'll do until either the elastics are in stock or til i find a suitable elastic band for it.
Silver K140S' that look almost identical to these, but with a more K240S style headband assembly and the cool 'holey' headband are now on their way to me.
Oh, and they are NOS/NIB.
