Default Senn hd480 (hd 480 II)

Anyone ever own a pair of these?

They can be bought quite cheap and in good condition on ebay, but it is very difficult to find much information on them (as they are > 10 years old!).

What was their origional price range? What would they be comparable to?

)

They use to sell for $120 Canadian in 1991

IIRC I paid 99 Deutschmarks back in 1990 or 1991. Was ~50 US$ back then.

Comparable perhaps to Koss PortaPro or something like that (but with different sound signature) and much better than Senn HD201.

Thanks guys.

I have a bid in so hopefully I'll grap myself a bargin.

Got an iAudio D2 on the way so wanted to try a bigger set of headphone with the vamped output (74 mW), just don't have a whole lot of cash left over.

Currently only own earbuds: sony e888, senn ie3 / em3 + a few stock sets.

Never closed this off.

Got these v. cheap off a guy in Germany as the foam was badly degraded. Could still source replacement Sennhieser foam, but not at the required bargin price! Instead I got a generic set of foam covers from china on ebay and it has worked a treat. Total cost (headphones, foam, postage) about 35 euro.

As I have stated in my last post, I have no experience with larger diaphram headphones and so cannot make a useful judgement on these headphones. However, amped I must say the improvement in sound in these over earbuds is significant ... a real pleasure to listen to. A great reason to revesit some old albums. Unamped, I'm not as intusiastic about these.

You can buy them from Sennheiser USA's website. They are also frequently sold on EBay. You might do a "Saved Search" for HD480s
