Totally agree, downloaded the samples, and must say, fantastic choices as test pieces that I myself may now use.

Yes they are using new cables. I recently received SE530 replacing my cracked Exposed wires S500s. The cables are not those stiff ones anymore. They feel much better over the ears as well.

I have a fairly new pair and my cables are pretty floppy and flexible (not stiff at all). They curl around the ears with ease. I am guessing these are the new cables and the older one's were stiffer?

That's right! Consider your self lucky! You don't have to deal with the stiffness of death!! I owned my pair for about two years and had to replace them three times.

I don't know if I've got the new wires or old wires but I know they are holding up to some very daily use ... many times in some really dusty, hot and humid outdoor work conditions as well.
Six months of constant use (and I wrap them around my mobile gear as well) and not a sign of any wear on the cables yet.
The numbers on the Y cable are "3277", which I guess translates into a production date of 3/27/07?

I have two numbers on mine. In the central bit, it reads
0978SE530
On one side, on the bit that directly goes in to a cable to the earphones (right one) reads.

Thanks for the heads up about the yellow foamies. There is definitely a change in sound, the bass is alot more lean however the highs became slightly veiled.
All in all I love how easy they are to insert/get a seal compared to the uncertainty of the black olives.

yeah i couldnt get them to fit either without my ear aching, but then i tried sloooowly twisting them in.

Well I think I may be a convert! I have been a big fan of the black olives, but decided to try the triple flanges again. I've never been able to insert them correctly but wanted to try the advice above. Gotta say -- it works! I got an outstanding seal and it really brightened up the sound. The bass is still impressive too. I still like the black olives, but the triple flanges may become my standard tips now. BTW, I cut off the smallest flange on these some time ago when I thought it was obvious they would be uncomfortable to me. Even so, the seal is very good. They tickle a little, but I think it was just a getting used to it kind of thing.
Anyhow, thanks for that advice. And, this proves (to me at least) that you can definitely change the sound of E500/SE530s by changing the tips.

I tried them before, and do not like how they fit. ....They hurt!!
Black olives are the best so far or the yellow foamies as a second. IMO!

Thank you for your review, which was excellent. One question, Norbert Brainin cello sonata Op 5 No 2 in G minor is actually Beethoven's cello sonata. Who is playing it?

Your correct.
Norbert Brainin and friends are playing.
The performance was at a certain acquaintances birthday celebration.

Interesting review. I sold off my E4's on the basis that the bass was weak and lacking any kind of impact. And the light airy presentation was not for me. That is why I have stuck it out with my UM2s, though even they are eating dust due to the new-ish ESW9s
I would be interested in a/b'ing the SE530s and UM2s one day

I had to sell my SE530's a few months back.
I miss them dearly.
Haven't played my portable rig since offloading them.
I'll be purchasing another set (probably SE420's though) in a bit.
Such great sounding gear.
