Yes I do use MP3Gain to normalise my mp3s, otherwise the bass sound will crack when I use ipod EQ. Thanks for your suggestion. 
Yes i once tempted to upgrade to SE420, but i worried it'll end up similiar to E4c, then I turned to look at UM2 and SE530 because they are famous with decent bass. Now I'll wait a little longer to see how westone 3 reviewed when it release.

My iPhone will arrive next week and a friend can get me a good deal on the 530 (approx 250USD). I've been a little worried that the sound wont be very good as the iPhone's output won't be high enough to fully utilize these high end earphones.
Is this something that i should be worrying about or are these actually worth getting? Note that my current earphones are the JBL 220 reference. They sound okay but microphonics are horrible! How are the microphonics on the 530 anyway?

I've listened to MP3's with my Sony Erricson Walkman phone and found it to be quite noisy.
Don't know anything about the Iphones ...
Re: microphonics ... if you mean the sounds caused by your hitting or brushing up against the cable and what not ... how this transmits to the ear peices ...
Then not terribly bad.
Not as bad as the E4C's were, that's for sure.

SE530's are very sensitive so you should have no problem driving them. Shure cables have very little microphonics so that is not a problem.

I just went to a local audio shop to test out the SE530 with a buddy's iPhone. They sounded pretty great (well, compared with the 530 on my 1st gen iPod mini :P).
For those of you who have this pair of IEMs, how long does it take to burn-in? And also, I'm hoping to be able to use these while going to the gym to filter out all the crappy gym music. Will I damage them with sweat?

I honestly didn't notice much of a break in ... I think I noticed a tad bit of edginess/grain dissappear after an hour or so but they just pretty much have sounded great since getting them.
RE: Sweat?
I've heard others mentioning blowing their Shures with sweat. I wouldn't let them get doused or anything.

I hated mine and returned them. Maybe it needed a amp ? Though I bought the PTH version. Wasn't to expensive at $320 new but I see now they go for a lot more now.

Very informative review s1raah; and very interesting thread!
Has anyone compared the SE530 with the Future Soincs Atrio's? I've read elsewhere that while the SE530 has prominent bass, it does not go very deep, which is the Atrio's forte. Can anyone comment on this?

the se530 go easily deeper than is needed to be sufficient, ive heard tones as low as 25hz and music with tones any lower is made for pure subwoofer enthusiasts.
the atrio's do also seem to breeze the sub tones out very well, and indeed it is a very strong point for the atrio's. is it deeper than the se530 bass, i dont think it is personally, i just think its a little richer and reverberates more. this i believe is just a high point of dynamic drivers when compared with balanced armatures...hence the need for two bass drivers to achieve the impact and texture good dynamic drivers achieve.

I've had my SE530's since they came out and take them with me wherever I travel. The cord is pretty much shaped to go behind and over my ear.
But I was recently sitting next to someone on an overseas flight who also had them, and they said they just purchased them before the flight, at the Atlanta airport.
While they looked the exact same, the cord did not seem as stiff as mine. Are there newer versions of the SE530 where Shure did something to lessen the stiffness of the cord where it connects to the earpiece?
Just curious, the cords were definitely different in that respect. Any info is as usual greatly appreciated.

There are a few threads about Shure cables, apparently they are using different cables now because the old ones could develop cracks where it goes over the ears.

An interesting topic to be sure.
I mean, the whole Shure cable problem thing ...
Going on six months now ... daily use ... and some of that being quite brutal (while working my blue collar gig, etc.) ... and I've yet to see any signs that my cables are in jeopardy or otherwise threatening to erode/collapse.
They look/work just fine.
I'm almost disappointed as I figured they'd be shredded after constant day to day use ...
But the headphones and their respective cables look and sound just peachy thus far.
But that's only six months of constant use, mind you.
I am ever so looking forward to the next six months ... you can be sure.
