Might be a good idea , but you’re right. This is a real issue. Haven’t had it with the X3 though!
After some days of use and getting some Sennheiser HD565 (which are quite bright in comparision), I’m thinking of switching back to the X3. These are just two different headphones. I don’t know yet, but sometimes the X3i’s dark signature annoys me a bit?
It was just too obvious whenever I switched from the X3i to the Senns and after a direct comparision, I think I like the X3 a bit more. Still unsure though. Might carry them both. *lol*

You are not the only one, like I said before I feel the same way, for example when I hear the album "The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place" by Explosions In The Sky, I don't like the bass in some parts. But I started to get used to it, and I think my ears start to ignoring a little bit the excessive bass, though I prefer the overall sound(minus bass) of the X3i over the X3 in that album, but when the bass really kicks in, it gets kinda annoying.

Hmm... this is quite a fix. I'm a happy user of the X3, you people think that it's worth it to get the X3i? Took me 2 tries to get a working X3 though so it's kinda a hassle to deal with the subpar QC these earphones seem to be plagued with.

I didn't feel they were overpoweringly dark, even coming from an mainly ety background.

wow, the x3 vs x3i opinions on this page certainly define the "user hears what's best for him/herself" mantra of headphone preference

I have the original X3, but can't decide whether or not to get the X3i :/
Right now, my X3's sound amazing--great bass, smooth and warm mids, wide soundstage, and the separation and clarity are astounding! (They're at ~400 hours.)
How do the mids and clarity from the X3 compare to that of the X3i?

So I am pretty sure I'm going to get X3i or Xbi. But I am not sure which one. I enjoy a good amount of bass on most of my music, but I still want to be able to hear great vocals. Would it be better to just get the X3i and have a little less bass? Do vocals on the Xbi suffer compared to the X3i?

imo Tuncan, sounds like you should get the x3i. Its more balanced than the Xbi's and can produce more in the upper range.
Betalyr, why would you get the new X3's if you are satisfied with the original? Is there something wrong with them?

Have you heard both, the X3i and XBi? I have both, they have some ~50 hours on them, and they actually sound pretty much the same (contrary to the old X3 and XB).

There are cracks on the side, and I'm scared of it burning out.. After a while, the bass of the X3's are supposed to fade..
That might be a while, so I want to decide whether or not I should get the X3i's right now..
How do the mids and clarity differ from the original X3 and the X3i?

Since you have both, could you do a comparison between the X3i and the Atrio M5 ? Thanks

Well, speaking from someone who has every Mylar earphone in existence, including the older models who can directly trace its ancestry to the OVC TC20 (and they all still work perfectly btw), I can say that the X3i's sound signature is considerably different than that of the older Mylars.
The X3i has a thicker, warmer sound. The bass is prominent, but lacks the crispness and defination of its predecessors. The highs are a tad rolled-off, so it doesn't sound as airy or expansive as the older models. Clarity is still there, though I find the bass and lower mids too overpowering at times. As a consequence, it does not sound as engaging with instrumental music, where I like to savour the details and the subtle layers of bass a properly amped older model Mylar can dish out. That does not imply it sounds like crap, however. I feel it still blows the doors off any competitors in its price range (or higher).
But I will say is this: the X3i is absolutely killer with vocals, especially female jazz vocals. Wow! Smooth, creamy and oh so lush.
Make sure you let these burn in for about 50hrs though. They sound bloated and boomy straight from the box.
And for those folks who prefer a more neutral sounding Mylar, get ready for the soon-to-be-released Mylar LB

just got my x3i today.
previously had x3.
i wished x3 had more bass, and x3i just did that!!
however, i do feel that x3 had better details and better clarity but the difference isnt really much.
i think i like x3i so far.
