Default Replacement Grado Headbands?

Hey everyone, since Grado doesn't sell its headbands separately, I was wondering if I could call on the creativity of your head-fiers to suggest a replacement. Please, a penny for your thoughts

Cheers!

this might be irrelevant to this thread, but I always thought why doesn't the Headphone companies use gell pads for the headband....

you know, like those used in mousepad with wrist supporter.......

maybe you can contact one of the firms that produce that kind of gell pad, and specially ask for 75 gell-headband or something??

There are pretty argumentative explanations for this. First, gel as material are much more expensive than sponge type. Second, some gel are heavier. Third, gel doesn't breath like sponge or foam on skin. When I was designing some headphones, I wanted to use plastic+rubber molding injection to improve flexibility, durability, tension, etc. Perhaps best example would be ultra modern toothbrush with those rubber inserts around the frame.

I was lucky enough to get a headband replacement before they really clamped down on their policy regarding this...but that doesn't help you much now.

I've seen some references to forum members using leather Senn pads as a replacement...I can't remember who had done this??

Edit: It might have been LTUCCI1924

Read this article, The Collected Grado Headphone Mods. About halfway down, written by Head-Fi moderator Tim D., there is an article about using Sennheiser pads attached to the Grado headband. He also indicates that it is possible to use the HD490 headband and cushion (available from Sennheiser USA for $8.60 at the time of the writing) for his MS-1s.

Thank you very much for your responses and I should have clarified my question further. I am not looking for a headband reinforcement, but rather a completely new headband. Imagine two bare earcups and that's the situation I'm trying to overcome. Thanks!

If you're down to just two earcups with no pivots or adjusters, then it might be easier to just get SR-60 headphones and upgrade them with the SR-325 earpieces or sell them to people that want to upgrade theirs. You would have to try it first to make sure the size is the same and it will fit right.

That's a good suggestion dip16amp. I might consider that... Thanks for the input everyone, sorry for misunderstanding the original sennheiser mod

But yes, I am down to just the earcups, no pivot thingys or metal poles let alone leather headbands.
