Default AKG K 501

I'm still waving the flag of the AKG K 501!

For what it costs, for as easy to play as it is (meaning it doesn't require exotic outboard amplification, not that you can't hear the difference) and as comfortable as it is, the K 501 is a solid performer. For what I listen to, the K 501 is an excellent match acoustically and sounds very accurate.

Certainly the K 1000 is a product in a different class, but remember, the K 1000 isn't really a headphone, it's an ear speaker system!

There is nothing that beats the HFI-650 DVD-Edition, if You hear modern music. Otherwise a K1000, HD 600 or HFI-2000G is the choice No.1.

No doubt, Shure E5's the most dynamic sounding earphone. Its dual driver performance has been beyond my imagation and I was overwhelmed by the power it delivers in a small bodily mass.
Clarity, bass and board spectrum.. E5 easily surpasses even the most of full-size headphones. But unfortunately, I still feel quite uncomfortable wearing this thing.

Original post: The Shure E2C's have served me well and are only 100 bucks for extremely awesome sound.

I recently bought the Alessandro MS-1 and I have been listening to them a lot more. They are a lot more comfortable for use around the house and I like the sound they put out. In the future, I don't think I will buy any more Shure earphones. I like having a headphone that I can take off and put on easier and that doesn't hurt my ears after a few hours of use.

This being said, I will be keeping my E2C's around for a long time. Why? They are simply the best for noisy areas - namely airplanes. Any of my other headphones have sounded horrible on the plane because they're simply too open. The Shures allow me to hear my music without cranking my volume to 100%.

Thumbs up For DJ'ing use...

... I vote for the Sennheiser HD25SP's

PRACTICALITY
They are very durable and take a hell of a lot of abuse (being at the bottom of kit bags etc). The headphones can be removed from the headband so you can share music (if the need arises). Also the cans will rotate so that you can lift them to one ear in the middle of your set.

SOUND
Great sound insultation (important for when you don't have a good monitor speaker in the booth) They can take a lot of power and I have found them difficult to distort no-matter how high I crank up the music.

CONCLUSION
I have never listened to the higher end of the Sennheiser range so I cannot comment relative to the 'creme de la creme' of headphones. But all I can say is this this is "the dogs" (a British idiom for being 'extremely good')

For my 2c worth...

Sennheiser HD 580/600 Very smooth and refined

Grado SR-60 Unbelievebly great for about $70.

Grado SR-325 (Love them!) Great overall sound- a bit on the bright side.

Grado RS-1 (can be obtained as low as $450) Or me it's a love/hate thing depending on equipment and source.

Entymotic 4s Absolutely Wonderful

Yesterday I put on a pair of the included black tips. I found the fidelity to be enormously improved. With the rubber tips I've frequently had problems with attenuated highs. The black tips smoothed the sound and seems to have also improved bass extension and soundstage. I do a lot of traveling and these are just great.
