Till now, for me and my budget:

Senn 650 recabled
Denon 5000 (tired at the DFW meet and next to the Denon 5000's only Ed9's sounded better).
I am saving for Ed'9s and my headphone search will be over...at least for this month,ha.

I can second this. They've really grown on me.

Under $500 it's hard to beat the MS-1 with flat pads. They're just very enjoyable.

price VS performance performance I'd rate the 340's as tops..200.00 for a world class headphone IMO..

Some people have claimed that the sound is harsh, or tipped toward the treble region, but this is completely, utterly, false. They are by far the smoothest, most neutral, most accurate, most detailed, most musical IEM I have ever used. I would even say that they are lush. I have never been able to enjoy music quite like I have with these. The frequency response was always off somehow. Too much bass, or not enough treble, or dim, distant mids. But these, wow. They let me forget that I am wearing headphones and allow me to truly delve into the depths of whatever I am listening to. The sound they produce is so smooth and natural I don't even have the vocabulary to describe it. For the mids, think smooth, like freshly churned butter, and just as delicious. For the highs, think clear and sharp, like a polished diamond. For the bass, think deep like the mariana trench. The sheer naturalness of the sound is something to behold, and the detail, the ability to discriminate between sounds, the ability to hear each instrument exactly the way it sounds, the ability to hear even the smallest background sounds, is unsurpassed by anything else in this price range.

Truly a king among headphones. I'm ashamed I didn't buy them sooner.

Phew. Now, for the cons. The cables are very noisy. Noiser than any other IEM cables. You must use the shirt clip or find some other way to secure them or else the transmitted noise will be very disturbing. Potentially, they may be uncomfortable for some people, but I have yet to have any problems. With the foamies or Comply tips, I can wear them for hours on end with no discomfort. Undoubtedly, some people will find them uncomfortable.
Sorry for quoteing you on this thread.was curious i see that you have a hd 650 and a total bit head any issues in driving them ,am getting the 650 so needed a good portable amp thats affordable.thank you

For <$100, I don't think there's anything that can beat the Koss PortaPro's or the Sennheiser PX100's. The PortaPro's have a wonderful warm sound whereas the PX100's are just nice clean headphones.

I also really love my Sennheiser HD595's because of their aggressive sound.

If money is not an object, I've got a set of Etymotic ER-4P's and they absolutely blow me away every time I listen to them.

That said, I've not had a whole lot experience with many other headphones, so I could be entirely naive in my love of them.

As for the noise cancelling of them, I use them with the foam tips and find they cut *a lot*of noise.

Really? I agree that they are pretty good for their price, but at <$100 you can get a pair of Grado SR60 here, which, in my opinion, are better than both Porta Pro and PX100.
