rj, nobody out here seems to care about conversing with newbies. I'm about to drop this site completely. For me the UM2's blow the EC4's away and it's all due I'm sure to the dual Arms, everyone knows dedicated seperates sound better than one driver

Podster, you might want to give the site some time, as you've been posting only since 4.30.07 and haven't actually asked a question yet yourself that relates to headphone-related recommendations. Head-fi is actually pretty newbie-friendly, and there are plenty of IEM-related threads that answer the poster above you, if you use the Search function. I'd give personal recommendations, but I'm not an IEM user.

Thank you for the reply Jahn, I actually had two other question threads I started but got no response and I am a member of the Klipsch forum and am used to immediate responses when posing questions.

I have recently been in contact with Ray Samuels and he suggested I get the UM2's as they are in his opinion the finest in ear phones available for $299.00.

I would love to hear any other owners takes on these phones in addition to what some might feel is a good alternative. I have been round & round with my own conscience just trying to figure out just which one of Ray's amps I want but I think I'm going with the Tomahawk of course some here might think I would be better off with another amp possibly but when no one responds I just assume they don't want to be bothered.

Again let me thank you for at least responding to me.

Default new pair of headphones

Hi! I am currently looking for a new pair of headphones. My budget is about $100-150 USD, and I am limited to buying from amazon.com since I am very soon ordering a laptop from there and I need both the laptop and headphones shipped at the same time since I live in Venezuela and I dont wanna bother my friend who is receiving the shipment with several ones to wait for. So yeah I'm limited to items shipped from amazon.com

As for the headphones, something that would go along nice with a macbook. I'll mainly be using it at the school library or at home, so portability is not a big deal, but I don't want something huge that's gonna scream nerdness... ya know?

I was looking at the sennheiser hd-555's but those aren't shipped from amazon.com and I'm not sure if they will arrive separately. Apart from sennheiser I don't really know any other good brands out there. Any suggestions?

MS-1 or DT-770 for that price range if you like rocky/poppy songs.

OOFez, just adding my .02 since you mentioned listening in the Library I thought I'd mention in ear cans which have isolation for the listener and outside parties.

Not sure if you can amazon but either the Shure EC2's or EC3's can probably be had for your price range. Ultimate Ears Supr.fi 5EB's are also nice and I believe fit your price range. There is a new kid on the block named Jays D-Jays that I'm not familier with but fall in around a bone a pair if you can garner some feedback on them;-)

For an over the head support model you might consider the Sennheiser PX-200's for a more sealed pair or if you don't mind a little sound coming out where others could possibly hear your music the PX-100's are killer phones with much better bass response t the PX-200's IMHO.

Good luck on your search and enjoy your MacBook with them;-)

How can you say that one is better than the other without hearing them? Technology is great but you can't say that one is better because it has an extra driver. I guess I'm not "everyone" because I can't agree with that statement.

I haven't heard the UM2 either but I do own the E4c and I can tell you that I have not been disappointed. They are durable, small (UM2s are giant in comparison), extremely accurate and they come with a large variety of tips to satisfy just about everyone's taste, whether you like flanges, foam or rubber cones. I've listened to a good range of musical styles with them and have never noticed that they really lack in any department. If I were to choose one thing that I don't like about them it would be that they isolate too much with the foam tips but if that's a deal breaker, you probably shouldn't be looking for IEMs in the first place.

Good luck on your search and try to keep an open mind.

unfortunately neither are on amazon, bah. however, 00Fez, amazon does carry sennheiser and koss. from your laptop to your cans means you shouldn't get cans that need a headphone amp - i would stick with something more portable too, since you're laptopping around. If you like the headband, get the Senn PX100. If you like clips, get the Koss KSC-75. Don't be put off by their low prices - they are great bang for the buck and will do you just fine as intro cans until you get the itch to build a home rig!

edit- a 3rd party vendor does sell the DT770 thru amazon, but it's going to cost 60 bucks more than if you just walked into a Guitar Center, so your call...and this is a BIG can, and sounds better amped too...

JJEQ, recently meant last month with on Ray's word alone I bought the UM2's and they do blow away both my E2C's, E3C's, Ulti Ear Super.fi 3, Ety 6i's and I even have a pair of the Koss Sparkplugs which are not very good but for $17.00 they still take out stock iPod phones IMHO.

Not sure where you came up in my original post that I did not have them already as I said in my other post I'm not sure the UM2's can be beat for $299.00 period but I'm listening

Good call Jahn, you are a very good representetive for Head-fi
