Default I like Grados

I just bought a set of 325i's and I like them alot. I took back a pair of Sony MDR-1709's that I thought were pretty good until I demo'd the Grados. My Grado are not as efficient as the Sony's but separation is much better along with detail.

I've heard great things about the ATH A900s. And they're only $190.

So it seems to me that the HD650's are the best you can get before you hit the 1,000+ mark?

One of the possible bests (together with AKG K701, Beyer DT880, DT990, ATH W5000, A900, Stax SRS2020/3030 and many others)...

the "best" can be another for you personally, it depends on your tastes.

I'm looking for new headphones for home under $1000 the only semi nice headphones I have currently are Shure E4C's and an old pair of Sony's MDR-CD470(I know sony's suck)

So far it seems like I should either go Grado RS1 or the HD650's, I wish their was a local store that I could try them out at

Don't overlook the Audio Technica AD2000. Pricejapan.com as the best price on them. They have a little more forward sound sig like the RS-1, but seem even more detailed to me.

Hi,

I'm currently using an Etymotic ER-6i, straight out from an iPod Mini
Looking for some canalphones that are more suitable for rock kinda music, the Etys are a little weak there.
Any recommendations for something within the same price range as the ER-6i?

First things first, try your foamie eartips to get the best bass coupling. See if you can stand them and if that improves bass enough for you.

If that doesn't work, Shures are generally much bassier than Etys. I think the E3 is closest in price.

Another option would be Ultimate Ears 5EB.

(Don't order Sensaphonics demos unless you want to be permanently unhappy with non-custom IEMs.)

Thanks for the reply!

Hmm...Shures huh, I'm in Malaysia and last i heard they're sold for something like RM900 over here, which is around 250USD

Read a lot about how Grados are simply superb for rock, is there anything like the Grados of earphones?
