$99 for all of those Grado Sound features that people love (or hate) ... it's hard to find a better deal.

It's obvious - the best headphones are the ones I hope to acquire next . . . .

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned a current tally of positive opinions for cans mentioned so far in this thread. Having nothing better to do with my time here at work, I've gone thru and made a list...

This list is based on positive views expressed by users for particular cans in their threads. Where possible, I tried to assess wether people had actually listened to the cans they were praising. Give aways like "I've heard that these cans are..." tipped me off that they hadn't heard the can before... Like I said before votes were tallied on members positive praise of a headphone. There were also a number of posts querying what a can was like/how it performed in this area ect. which didn't add to the thread at all...

1) Sennheiser HD600
2) Sennheiser HD580
3) AKG K501
4) Etymotics ER4P/S
5) Sony MDR-V6
6) Sony MDR-CD3000
6) Grado SR125
6) Grado SR80
6) AKG K1000
10) Koss KSC-35
10) Grado SR60
10) Koss Sporta/Portapros

These are the top 10 ranking cans from this long standing sticky thread. Wether it is an accurate reflection of Favorite/Best headphones on Head-Fi is debatable. There were also a number of cans with one or two votes that I thought would have rated higher like the Beyer DT880, Grado RS-1/RS-2 and a few AT cans.

Anyway, it passed some time for me...

Enjoy.

Thumbs up Senn hd 280 pro

If you're looking for some good but CHEAP closed headphones, check out the Senn hd 280 pro. The sound isolation of these 'phones is incredible (probably second only to etys). Surprisingly, the 280s have a very mature sound. While most closed 'phones are boomy with poor detail, these have a moderated bass spectrum with a crisp mid/high range. The impedance isn't too high, so they can powered out of most portables, but , as usual, an amp really helps them shine. Also, I would venture to say these are the BEEFIEST headphones sennheiser makes. And to top it all off, the 280s will only set you back $70 (amazon). :280smile: :280smile:

I still say the dt250/80 is a nice headphone for the money.

I was cruising around on amazon the other day when I saw you can get the Senn HD 280 pros for something like 65$. Thats crazy cheap!! They also had HD 497 for 35$ but it must have been a mistake because the next day they were back up at $50.

I would say price-performance-ratio for the Sennheiser-590 is one of the best on the market given their qualities and price. I wouldn't say they sound LESS then the 600 JUST DIFFERENT. They are more airy then the 600... softer pads... lighter in weight... cord on one side... and easier to drive. They do sound a very small tad tinny compared to their brother and less involving. Laid back would be a good description.
