Default PS-1's: WHat to expect?

I have just purchased the PS-1's. I generally love the Grado sound. But I haven't heard this Grado. Can someone fill me in on the main sound differences than my cans of choice the RS-1's?

I like all sorts of music and like using the RS-1's with them. Will the PS-1's fit in my system and musical taste's? Or will I hate it and regret buying it? Any impressions would be welcome especially PS-1 owners.

expect lots of bass. very good bass, but lots of it. beyond that, i have a hard time quantifying my time with the PS-1's. i think they are the best headphones i've ever heard, and i've heard the R-10's.

expect some weight on your ears, like a pressure weight, so start doing ear execises now!

the bass will be there but its more like a speaker bass so youll probably like it first off.

flats suck with them keep the bowls or rs pads on.

where them high up on ur ears, to far down sounds like crap

they are great,

if the price isn't prohibitive for you they are fun. I did a good comparison of them
and the hp1s side by side, I really wish i could have both : /

They are quite light and the build of the driver housing is reminiscent of the HP1000 series. Of course the rest of it is nothing quite that sweet but sonically - stunning!!

Just plug it into anything for good sound...portable CDP, DAP...whatever you want.

I was using one extensively with an SR-71 (Ray's combo) and it was BEAUTIFUL...

A truely great headphone, in my opinion the best Grado has ever made. Also more versatile with a wider range of music than any other of the Grados.

I feel they are the heaviest phone I have ever had on my head. I own HP-1000's and I have had R10's on my head. I can't imagine a heavier phone than the PS-1's. Expect a lot of weight in comparison to other phones. Will you suffer from this? I suppose that is quite relative but I found them to be quite comfortable.

Yes, lots and lots and lots of bass. For some it may be far too much. It was for me on many tracks. They have the most liquid sound I have ever ever ever EVER! heard from any phone, and yes I have heard the R10's quite extensively. If the price was not so prohibitive for me, I would own a pair already. THough I would not sell my RS-1's or HP-1's, the PS-1's would exist side by side with them.

oh compared to RS-1 they are heavy. Compared to HP-1000 they are quite light.

I love the metalwork though...a PS1 driver housing on a HP2 headband assembly =

They are definitely heavier than HP-1000's, as for a PS-1 driver in an HP2 cup....hmmm this could be good, but I would prefer going the reverse and listening to what happens

Well my MS-2's are here. First impressions: I like a lot. Very similar to the rs=1's with less air. Love the look. Slighty heavy compared to my RS-1's.

When I get all my hp-1+2 back from the US and my ps-1's from Germany. Then it is time for a mini headphone shootout. Can't wait for my ps-1's. Especially for Pantera (cowboys from hell)

I suppose I could swap them around and see what happens. Hp-1 cup with ps-1 drivers and a ps-1 cup with hp-1 drivers

The other spare set of ps-1's I can keep as standard....

Goddam I love Germany

true! Bowl pads are necessary to balance out the heavy midbass. The PS-1's seem to be very forgiving headphones and to me have a smoother top end than the RS-1. Enjoy!
