Problems with Sennheiser Headphones

Hello first of all, I have been a member for quite some time but never really posted. But the forum was really helpful for suggesting good headphones and especially for the discovery of the Koss KSC75 which in my country I don't think anyone knows they exist.

Over the past year I owned two pair of Sennheiser headphones which I considered to be in the high-end category but maybe I was wrong. Since I mostly use my headphones for PC gaming and music I purchased the Sennheiser PC150 headset. After a couple of months of using them the left channel of the headphones began to cut out the sound constantly. I actually figured the problem was coming from the volume control since when pressing it down a bit the sound actually came again but after sometime this did not work anymore and the left channel was totally gone, the right one worked perfectly.

Later I bought the Sennheiser HD485's since I thought that without the volume control the problem would not persist. The sound is plainly awesome, they are comfortable ecc. But at some point last week I was watching a movie on my pc and in a blink the right channel was gone without any sound. I tried to increase the volume of the pc and at some point the sound actually came back but after some time again the sound was completely gone. I was so frustrated that when I hit the right channel against my ear I actually hear something but that isn't quite an option isn't it? All of this after only two months using the headphones.

Did anyone have these problems with Sennheiser? I mean it could be just my luck but I will never ever buy Sennheiser headphones again. In fact I purchased another set of KSC75's with a VC20 volume control because they are the most reliable pair of headphones I have ever had and they sound great. Thank you for your feedback.

I am sorry you are having these troubles. Our return rate is historically (and uncommonly) low...Please remember that we have a 2 year warranty on headphones, and most models have replaceable parts. Cables will wear out over time, hence the replaceable cable on the HD485, but we do intend them to last a long time as well.

Call our service department for warranty replacement if they were purchased new or refurbished from an authorized dealer.

That said, I was going to suggest that it sounds like the typical 3.5mm jack issue. I don't know how the OP is connecting with his headphones, but if it's a 3.5mm jack, the question is when, not if connection problems occur. The spring-contacts are just too small and have too small a contact surface to withstand the normal wear, dirt, and corrosion that take place.

This can happen with some headphones, and not others, as small differences in tolerances exist among different 3.5mm plugs.

EDIT: No, I have never had issues with Sennheiser phones. However, I have had issues with most 3.5mm jacks and plugs at some time or another, regardless of headphones.

Anyway, just a guess ...

Thank you for your reply but unfortunately I live in Malta and I bought the headphones from eBay. I tried a brand new cable for the HD485's which I bought separately but the problem remained so its not working because of a problem with the 3.5mm jack but definately a problem with the cans. The weird thing is that I take good care of my headphones and the sound just cut off while using them as usual.

I believe the poster above was referring to the jack that you plug the headphones into, not the plug on th headphone cable.

Oh in that case it is not a problem anyway because I'm using the KSC75's without any problems in the same jack.
