How do you like the K26p so far? Compared to the px100?

I wouldn't count on it.... they're DJ headphones, not portables..
|
All they have to do is release a K81P for "portable". Not a lot of work in creating a modified package, just drop in a "P" every place it says "DJ" , similarly update the instruction manual, and attach a shorter cord. Voila, the new "K81P".

Sounds easy enough, but... is it? I don't have any experience with this stuff, and don't want to destroy anything/do a bad job. I've tried searching for DIY tutorials but never found anything that left me with enough confidence to try...
edit: i dont have a multimeter so this is probably not a good project for me.

How much smaller is the K81 than the K181? Aside from sonic advantages, the K181's one-sided cable certainly is a big plus.

Humm well...
People say there are two lines of k26p, being the first much more balanced than the second. I have the last one for sure. It is simply boomy, but I love it when attached to a DAP for outgoing usage. The px100 is for sure more balanced and less fatiguing. Of course it has no isolation, while I found the k26p isolation enogh for my needs. I would really suggest you to listen to the k26p before buying it

Is it a nature that all if not most DJs model is one sided cord?
Why do they{AKG} made K81DJ a "Y" cord?
If using it for dj'ing, wouldn't the "Y" cord be an obstruction?

just adding a new connector is pretty easy. you just need to make sure which wire goes to which signal. i've found the easiest thing to do is after you cut off the excess, look at the cut cable and determine which wire went to which portion of the original connector. follow that pattern on the new connector when you're soldering.
although this thread is about making interconnects, it give you a good starting point.

Has anyone compared the K81DJ to the Senn HD-25-1 and is willing to share their sonic impressions?

I wrote a small comparison in this thread already. IMO the K81 beats the HD25-1 overall. But the HD25-1 isnt a great contender to start with anyway, until now it was the only avaible closed and somewhat portable headphone with atleast some qualities, so people used it because nothing else was avaible.. The HD25-1 just wasnt build with fidelty in mind (thats also why it comes with a steel cable)... Thats clearly not its purpose and never was intended so by Sennheiser.
The K81 has better soundstage and better mids which make it a much more pleasing listening experience. Its only negative is the Bass, it's a little overdone and not super tight and detailed, here the HD25-1 wins over the K81. BUT its in no way a slow overblown bass either, just a fun bass. Also the K81 sounds fast and punchy, almost like grado. Drums are very nice on it, always reminds me on how they sound on my speakers

Now would these be an option for someone looking to upgrade from a K26P to something with more isolation and possibly comfort? The Headroom writeup suggests they have no more isolation than the K26P. I've also been contemplating HD205 and EP-630.

I almost pull a trigger on HD205. Why not get both HD205 and K81? Keep the better one and return the other.

There's never been an audio revolution in history like the Ipod phenom, and certainly no innovation ever with as much potential to transform the headphone market.
OK so what do we have from all the headphone manufacturers so far for a high quality portable closed phone? The HD-1 which is for broadcasters that ships with a steel cable, and a phone that's meant for DJ's the K81. How long will it take for these guys to GET IT? It's not like the DAP thing started a year ago. Every other accessory on the planet exists for the Ipod - er except for a high quality over the ear headphone.
It's astounding to me, but personally I hope the K81 is the answer (or at least the work around). And I'm REALLY bummed it didn't make it here today. Looks like Monday now.

there are plenty of very good iem headphone solutions out there right now. to suggest otherwise is ingenious.

I kinda understand what he means though. A portable closed headphone that doesn't suck and isn't so expensive as to not be worth it is a hard beast to come by. And yet after IEM's, it's the most common-sense headphone to wear for portable use.
Something like the K81dj is perfect, and the long cord defeats the purpose. Portable listening isn't a new revolution, so I understand the rant.
Having said that, I just ordered a pair.
I still need to do that icans review, and I know the number one question will be to compare it to this headphone specifically...
Or it'll be my number one question anyway.
