Ouch... they're bigger than I thought. Scratch that for a portable headphone, then. Too eye catching for outdoor use IMO.

Indeed. I don't feel confortable to use them outdoor, maybe it's just me... Arg they sound so good... So I am still there: PX100 are my favourite portable ones. I am sure they have business plans, or whatever, that show how people who bought a 300-500 USD DAP are not interested to spend more money on a portable hi-fi headphone, but is it possible that only Sennheiser is producing a serious one?

The problem is I bought them as portable headphone blindly online. Anyway I am very happy with them for indoor usage

Technically, they're great for portable use. But most people will have a "vain" problem: Problem is the awkwardly shaped headband. The earcups itselves ain't too big and look cool & nice. I personally don't care and use them happily in public. At least a question of age. Whouldn't have dared this in my younger days.

Default AKG's masterpiece

Update:
Definetely a higher region than the KSC75 or the PX100, which are really muddy and lack soundstage in comparison.

Getting into a critical phase meanwhile, really crazy about the K81. Completely new "DT880ish" listening experience out of my MuVo.

It depends just on how I feel (not) comfortable with them outdoor. I am (more than) enough old to say that

No doubt: they are simply great and I feel like they are also opening more and more with burning (and I don't and I don't want to believe in burning )

Said so Nice you like it as much as i do. I think its really ok to say that these are easily better than the HD25-1. I couldnt compare them side by side but i listened to a friends HD25-1 some days ago and my opinion on those stays. They are definately no cans for headfidelty

What I also really like about them is their ability to be tweaked to almost any sound signature. I had my "Cafe del Mar" day today and missed a bit that Portapro boom & warmth. The K81 really didn't mind to be EQ'ed towards that signature - no distortion, no scrunching, no masking of the unEQ'ed frequencies.

I went to go pick these up today finally, and wow. Just wow. This little headphone rules! Finally, a closed headphone on the cheap that doesn't completely blow or fail to do the job of a closed headphone. Portability is pretty good. I don't think the cups look any worse than eggos. YMMV, but locally at least it's ok to wear these kinds of cans in public.

Portability is hampered more by the length of the cord. This is beyond the realm of the smartwrap but within the realm of a small cable turtle. That's what I slapped on mine and it seems to do the job.

Sound out of the box is a bassy groovilizer, but I'm surprised to hear a soundstage?? Wow! Ok, so the highs are rolled off and detail is just a tad muffled, but if the sound were to stay the same, for portable use, the sound is groovin' and fun. Everyone should own a pair of these monsters.

Now I have a real problem. I got these to compare to the Ultrasone icans, for that review I was supposed to have done ages ago. I haven't been happy with the Ultrasones... and compared to these, it's gonna be worse.

For those considering the FC7's or es5's or eggos...don't. Get these.

edit: Now to go post this rave in my blog...

I think I forgot to put http:// when I was put the page in my profile. It's fixed now though. There's not a lot there yet, but it's my little section of the net.
