Default New e3c... first impression

So I was lollygagging in bed late this morning when my doorbell rang. Knowing instinctively what it was, I jumped from my bed and ran (yes ran, so dignified) to my front door. Greeting me there was my friendly neighborhood postal worker with two packages for me. One was a CD I had ordered off of Amazon and the other was a pair of E3Cs I ordered from TTVJ.

Unable to contain my excitement, I demolished the box and removed my headphones. Knowing the fiasco I'd had in early January with EX51s, I went for the smallest flex sleeves. They fit, but I'm not sure I like them particularly. The sound was good, bass was a little absent, but I chalk that up to the fact that these are canalphones and they just don't do visceral bass impact. I'm not a basshead, so this isn't that important, I just like a tight low end (heh, no comment).

I tried the foamies next and they were excellent! I'm not sure that the sound was more muffled, but the outside world was definately quieter. I wear earplugs all the time since I'm the guitarist for a band, and I found the foamies to be a more "familiar" fit. The cost of the E3cs were justified by the fact that I will someday soon be using them as in-ear monitors. All the noise attenuation that I can get will be helpful.

I went running with them on and I could hear my footsteps, but not the cord since I cinched it firmly to my skull. I ran the rest of the cord down my back inside my shirt to keep the microphonics down and this seemed to work pretty well. I really dug the E3's habit of getting out of the way of the music so that while I was running I wasn't making comparisons to my 225s. The 225s are better bar none, but I'm sure as hell not gonna wear them while I'm running.

The only thing that disturbed me is that my kit didn't have the tri-flange earpieces in it. I really want to try those out, so I guess I'll have to order them from Todd, along with some replacement foamies. Ah well. Were they supposed to be standard in the box?

Long story short, I'll post again when I've auditioned them a little more. Let some of the "new purchase" euphoria wear off. =)
