My Sennheiser HD555 First Day Mods.
I got my 555's yesterday and decided to do the zbwu/"soundstage" mod, as well as some of the HWC mod.
For the HWC mod I just used the neoprene that was on the part that I'd pulled out, so the inside's not COVERED, but it is dampened fairly nicely.
I'd decided to combine the two looks I'd found on here and throw in a little silver on the driver itself.

I think they turned out nice. I can't wait to replace the wiring, it seems like wiring the cans evenly instead of through the head rest could help the time alignment a bit, not to mention the improvement in the wire.
They sound good, I think they sound better than before, but without another set handy there is no way to test for sure. If nothing else they look better, but compared to what I can rememeber they seem a bit more open, i.e. they sound a lot less like head phones.

I had mine for about 7 months before I did the sound-stage mod, and I can tell you that it made a pretty big difference. The cans gained a nice air to the top-end, which stock, IMO is a tad depressed.

I'd recommend painting the backside of the driver with black marker, it'll be loking much nicer through the grill.

I like them better silver, it's not really very reflective in person, so it's much more low key.
So I just recabled them with some wire I use to build RCA's with, nothing TOO special, a little less loss through resistance in the wire. The difference that having even runs in wire makes is HUGE. I'll NEVER buy a pair of headphones that is wired through the headband ever again. I knew it would make some difference, but the details REALLY came out.
They're still not PERFECT, but they are great for me for now. For $100 headphones playing out of my laptop, I'm thrilled with how they sound now. Now it's time to start saving for some B&W bookshelves.

Backside of the driver, it's the circle you see THROUGH the grill it's kinda white. I'm not talking about painting housing.

good mod one thing i just tried is removing the little pad from the back of the headphone makes the bass sound better

OH! The actual spider of the driver? I didn't do that because I was unsure how the marker would react with the glue on the suspension. In that case, I know EXACTLY what you mean, and feel exactly the same way.
I'll probably do that as well.
Further update. Still sound DELICIOUS, I'd say the recable is probably the first thing I'd do to these. The difference it made was major.

Here is mine, just did the mod a few days ago. Very nice improvement! It sounds much cleaner but I did notice some bass was lost, doesn't bother me its worth it.

I actually did the same mod a couple weeks ago (didnt cut out the inner grill but removed the cloth material and the piece of foam) and didnt notice a difference.
Taking out the two foam pieces that rest between the driver and grill should allow for better airflow but I think the foam was originally there to provide some sort of damping. So since I took the foam out, I added a small ring of blu-tak on the back of the driver to give it back some damping. Didnt notice a difference after that either but you guys can give it a try.

what if i decide i dont like the too open sound?

Yeah, there is no way to go back. You have to CUT the inner grill out. I used a soldering iron, I didn't have any other way to do it. It looks really messy but with the outer metal grill its VERY HARD to see the mess

I done this mod and wow I was amazed how much it changed. It's much more crisp and detail. The mid also smoothed out a little. The bass was deeper and clean. Great mod. I guess this mod make the hd555 better than a hd595
