Well, not completely impressed by my HD595's, not to mention one ear being louder than the other and being terribly lazy to send them back. I decided to sell my guitar and amp to fund a new pair of headphones. I don't really know what I'm looking for, but although my HD595's made an improvement, they just didn't stick out to me and brought nothing unique so-to-say.
So, moving away from Sennheiser I started to look at other brands and found these.
I'd like some owners opinions on these, to see if I can get a unique sound out of them and if they'd be alright for the music I listen to (You can see what I listen to on the other thread linked at the top). Feel free to recommend any other headphones in that price range.
Question.
What is your source? Do you use any amplification?
Because upgrading phones without having a good source for em will yield the same uninspiring results. I'd suggest putting down some money into a better audio card and maybe a small amp first, while sending back hd595 for a replacement. (provide the receipt, and Sennheiser replaces them without even a twitch, I already tested that). Then when you are set with that and if you are still unhappy with hd595 (and keep in mind, there could be more issues with the sound if a driver is broken), you could start venturing out with at least a firm source base.

yeah, you should list out your amp and source. Also, what specifically don't you like about the HD595s? That way we can say how to improve whatever weakness you're finding. ATs need similar sources as the HD595 if you wind up wanting to replace them. Not knowing what way you might lean in your preferences in dynamics......I would now say that if you don't like the HD595, mainly look at Grado. They're the least like the 595 in a begining setup, and should be good for pop. The DT770 is too much of a fart canon for pop IMHO.

If you're willing to go to $400, you might want to unload the 595 and look for a used Grado RS-1. They usually run $500-$550, but I have seen them go as low as $400. The RS-1 works great for all genres of rock, and it is one of those headphones that will grab you by the ears the first time you hear it. You will not be disappointed.

No amplification. Just an M-Audio revo 5.1 to the headphones. Thanks for the advice i'll look into upgrading my source first before buying new headphones. Could anyone tell me if this would be a good choice for an AMP/DAC combo?
