leather pads for HE60 and HD580/600/650!
After reading the thread by HugoFreire asking for interest in HE90 leather earpads, I thought it would be nice to have something similar for the rest of the Sennheiser users
HE60 users probably know what to expect. An improved version of the stock earpad: it would look much nicer, be more durable and sound should not really change as the originals already try to be leather.
HD users may be in for the experiment. No one knows how they will end up sounding but you may get an idea by the mod brought up by tim3320070, the Grado electrical tape mod applied to the velours Sennheiser pads. I will try this out later to see if it would be any good
The plastic connecting ring is different between the HD and HE series so I still have to find out how easy it is to make an interchangeable earpad where just the plastic connecting ring is changed in the building process, but it would be nice get anyone interested together.
HE an HD series are different runs, so we need 50 for each to get it started.
JMoney is willing to do a run for HD580/600/650 and HE60 headphones with the about same rules as in the HE90 run:
- minimum of 50 orders
- only earpads
- around $65-75 a set
please post or pm to be added to the list and make this possible!
make clear which version you'd want and then be patient

those look good to try the 'leather' sound on the hd650. think they'll fit? I'll see if I can find a webshop selling them to try it out.
as for the question, why not those pads?
Real leather looks/smells/feels much better than the fake stuff and is more durable.
At the quoted $65-75 it is not even that much more expensive than the original velours, which are $59 at Headroom. We just need enough interest.
...
found a webshop for the PXC450 pads, but they are very expensive ~£62 shipped. I sent a question to see if they have any chance of fitting before taking the plunge.
...
very quick test on HD650 with spare unused HE60 pads (don't click but do fit) indicates a bit brighter character with a bit more high end sparkle and more polite bass. drivers are a bit further from my ears so soundstage seems a bit bigger too.
My used HE60 pads (closer to my head) bring it back just a bit more to the original HD650 sound... hmmm...
If I'm honest I love the idea of leather pads for HD series but I think I'd prefer the original pads. It's a bit brighter and a bit less smooth with the HE60 pads but not a big difference. I do think they'll be a nice experiment to people that want to brighten the HD650's though.
my velours pads are not liking all this switching, they got all mushy

Alone in my room, lights off, tubes aglow and music flowing, I discovered something. No matter how much hi-end gear I put between the recording and my ears, its the music that moved me to tears. Less is always more.
