While on the topic of DIY headphones, I came across this in the Mouser catalog:

It's a piezo ceramic speaker with a frequency range of 500Hz-20kHz. They're $2.05 each. I've been thinking of ordering a few.

I dunno...I think the heads those poor headphones are on look a lot uglier
Actually, a few weeks ago, I was looking at my 2.1 Creative speakers in my room, because the speaker grilles look pretty much like the K1000 grilles, and held the speakers up to my ears. It was cool, but...no subwoofer!

There are those who treat music as a convenience.

One cannibalised pair of cheap earbuds later, and the phonodome is ready for ipod use. Drives to quite a satisfactory volume too. And using the headphone socket on the NAD delivers a most meaty and satisfying result.
