I thought the phonodome was going to be a four-speaker quadrophonic surround-system. Shame on you Duggeh. Shame on you...

Ha, nice job. You know, maybe this isn't as crazy as it first appear. We should seriously look for a possible full range driver. I remember several others on here doing the same, but not with the K1000 config.

If one of the main design points of the K1000 is angled drivers giving natural crosstalk, then making them out of typical speaker drivers can achieve at least 50% of the K1000s' sound.

Some desirable traits of a K1000-like driver
-high quality at low dBs
-full-range or at least full range at low levels
-no need for high sensitivity
That's it. There's got to be a bundle of speaker drivers that fit the above criteria.

Also, it must be a helluva lot easier than making e-stats (and u don't get shocked, of course.. I've never been shocked..no ) or setmenu's ribbon drivers.

edit: ooh, now I think about it, you could use a matched crossover that's designed for it and a subwoofer. Or some expensive active x-over. Take that K1000!

Duggeh, the Floats have gone to your head! Seriously though, this is a great idea. I was seriously considering making a headphone out of http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=264-730, the BG NEO3, or even its bigger brother, the NEO8.

Actually, our resident Mr. Jecklin has sort of inspired me to look into this more, and I came upon last night the Heil Air Motion Transformer, used in the Ergo AMT headphone. I came upon this, http://www.simplyspeakers.com/12diaphragms.htm (scroll about halfway down, in the left hand column, it says "ESS/HEIL AIR"). Would it be possible to try and build a headphone out of these? They cost $89 a pop, which is very reasonable if they really perform as they are reputed to.

The quadradome is on hiatus, i cdant really do anymore with the project until i come back home from uni and have access to some proper tools. Its coming though... eventually.

Ive been tinkering with these during the evening, added a crash helmet band so that it actually stays on my head.

And the one youve been waiting for, a picture of me wearing it.

All i need now is to find something better than this Ģ15 goodmans amp to plug it into, the hiss on it is terrible.

LOL, Thats brilliant. I'm using that picture now instead of the famous jecklin floats picture! You've got balls to have that on the net!
