Ipod + EQ = distortion?
Seems that on certain songs if I use the EQ on my classic ipod I get distortion on the treble on my Triple fi 10 pros. Is this a head phone issue or an ipod issue? If I turn the EQ off the distortion goes away, but should the triple fi's be able to handle the higher treble setting?
For sure I like to use the EQ as I think it sounds better with either acoustic or dance.
Thanks!
Ken

My 8GB Nano (2nd Gen) and my Apple Touch (16GB) both give distortion whenever I activate any of the canned EQ settings.
Funnily enough, no such distortion occurred when I play back those same MP3's on my Sony, Cowon or Creative DAP's with EQ
Anyway, I generally tend to lay off using EQ's on any player

Distortion
Hi,
You may also consider using Rockbox. Full detailed equalization settings are then available in addition to the pre-sets. No distortion as long as common sense is used.
Cheers

Yes.
But with 64ohm and higher impedance phones, distortion goes away.

If you can control them individually, bring each frequency range down instead of raising them. For example, if you want more bass, put everything except bass down instead of putting the bass up.

I found this an issue on all headphones.
Solution: Use rockbox if you want an eq.
Alt Solution: someone on the portables forum said that you can modify the ipod presets to be your own custom preset. If that is the case you can create a non distorting preset.

If that's the case it's an extremely well-hidden feature...

1. in iTunes, go to the "Window" pull down menu, and click Equalizer.
2. Set EQ sliders as desired
3. in top of EQ window, click on pop-up menu - select "Make Preset"
4. Give your new custom EQ the exact same name as one of the Presets that appear on your iPod (e.g. Rock) - select Save - then tell it to replace the original setting (over-write) when prompted.
5. Sync your iPod.
6. Now when you select Rock EQ setting on your iPod - you will hear the custom EQ setting you just saved.

Oh wow, sounds promising! Thanks!
EDIT: Weird, this got posted in both threads somehow...

I wasn't sure if the iPod could do that or not, but I assume that means they can't. I still have no idea why people keep buying them. Even using my friends' iPods are annoying because of the interface. It sure is simple. And that's about all it has going for it.

thanks everyone. I had a feeling it was not headphone related since it distorts at low volume.
Rockbox states it only goes up to ipod 5th generation. Link is not old as it states not for classic. :c(.
I'll try some of the other suggestions. I too wonder why apple would have the settings of the eq if they distort. what is the point. Especially since people with other systems state theirs does not distort.
