Hopefully John Grado will take a peek at the following survey, which suggests that Head-Fi members consider the Orpheus HE90 to reign supreme over all headphones - http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=130832
Wouldn't it be nice to see a Grado headphone rank right up there with the HE90?
the BEST is very subjective
and that poll ... doesn't show anything i guess. Look at the sample size and the total number of members in Head-Fi.
And also the number of people in the world playing headphones against the number of members in head-fi.

It's not a necessity, because you don't have to like what's most popular. If you like a pair of cans, why do you care that something else is thought more highly of by others?

Although I agree that the statistical sample size of this survey is very small, Head-Fi's membership of approx. 30,000 is not small. I suspect, but can't prove, that were this survey to include many more Head-Fi members, the current result of the HE90 being selected as top-dog, would remain the same. Some really experienced members of Head-Fi expressed their views in this survey, and I think that their views are persuasive. Also, notice the degree of preference for the HE90 is way above the levels of preference shown for the other headphones, and also since the the Grados do not rank at all highly, I think that this should be taken by John Grado as a hint that Grado should develop a new and truly outstanding headphone. I think that if he offered a truly outstanding headphone that's in the class of the HE90, there would be quite a market for it among the approx. 30,000 Head-Fi members.

Couple things I would like to point out:
HE90 as a top dog I think is mostly based on assumptions. One its very expensive and hard to find to try or to buy so I think very few people on this forum have ever heard it at all so their 'opinion' is purely based on speculation based on what they 'heard' mostly I think from other people who have not heard the headphone as well.
Taking the whole headphone market in to consideration I think you would find very few people being even aware of the existence of the HE90s along with lots of other cans we are familiar with (familiar if only by knowing they exist not necessarily hearing them).
Even if we took the 30k number of users I think there would be very few people able to spend over $1k or more for a pair of headphones. And we are talking about people 'involved' in this and being somewhat addicted. How many people in the general headphone market do you think there could be willing to spend over $1k on a pair of headphones no matter how good they are. Just look at the HE90s, was it like 20 some years and about 300 pairs not even sure how many actually sold and how many are still available threw Senn or some dealers... I just don't see a market. Also Grado is a small company, comparing to the others its tiny, they just can't compare to the massive budgets other companies have. Just think about the R&D budget Sony could dedicate for something like this. Also they are able given their size to spend lots of cash on R&D and products which don't necessarily make any money or maybe even loose if the R&D / marketing / etc. cost is taken in to calculation.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Grado sound, its my favorite headphone, I had the SR225s, then SR325s and now I have the RS1s and HP2s (even had two of them) and I would be very excited if there was a new top of the line headphone release from Grado but I just don't see it worth wile for Grado given the market size and the potential price for such item. Although I think I would buy it anyway
Just wanted to point out that the first 75 or so PS-1 headphones that were shipped to Germany were NOT numbered. So there are more of them out there than the current number would indicate.
I voted for teh HP-1. Never heard it before, but it looks cooler than any other headphone out there, and is so hard to get, it has it's own status. Honestly though I do think the HE90 looks nice, so does the HD-650...and even the HD-590. Personally I think every other headphone Senn makes is hideious, including the beloved HD-600 and 580. But as stated above, this just shows how invalid the linked poll can be. I (and I assume others as well) might have voted for a headphone they have little to no listening time with, simply because their personal opinion of it is biased.
