Wow, Zanth. Wow. Awesome interview. Couldn't have done it better myself. John answered every question I thought to ask.

BTW, is there any more material you plan on adding to the original body of the interview? If so, I'm looking patiently forward to it.

Also, to hear that John is Grado-Mod friendly is a very great thing, as is his take on tube amps, and how Grado doesn't need to make one at present since there are models that are adequate (I beg to differ, I wanna make a compact tube amp with separate power supply I could take most anywhere, and sound great for a first DIY amp). Also kind of sad to hear that the cloning of the RA1(I'd be pissed off too, especially if someone tried to 'clone' my novels) has kind of restricted his willingness to send out parts and such, since if I could afford it, I would so totally buy 78 or 92 SR60 drivers to make a 5.1 speaker system comprised of 16 driver arrays by five or six speakers.

But that doesn't matter, that's not even my dream system (mine is a Bose Westborough 121+121V+464 set plus sub for ultra exotic 6.1). What matters is that I thoroughly enjoyed everything that came out of that interview, and now I can only wonder who else out there could be considered for another one, and if it would live up to how this interview with the classy John Grado. George Cardas? The head at Sennheiser(don't know his name)? The head of Etymotic Research? (As gpalmer so jokingly suggested) Amar Bose? Or perhaps what's-his-name from Stax?

In any case, IMO, this thread should be a permanent sticky, if it isn't already up top to stay.

Good times!
- (or do a 32 RS1 driver array smiley!),
Abe

There will be yes. There will be our discussion about his cartridges, the addition of the Alessandro stuff in the main body and I'll clean it up a bit and make it flow better than it does now. All the really juicy parts are in there already though. What is up and coming, the PS-1 stuff, pads, HP-1000 lore and the pricing deal.

First thanks for taking the time and effort to write up a greatly informative post.

Though his rational for the pricing in Europe doesnt make sense from an economics point of view. However, I can appreciate that he has a business to run and thankfully i live in the US 1/2 of the year.

Again thanks for the read.

Cheers

Probably we have a minimum of $1K out of pocket for each custom can (assuming the germans had a biiiig profit margin selling them lol) - even if John were to do them at cost, do we have 200 people on head-fi willing to shell out $1k each? Imagine if we all gave that cash to Jude instead - $200k in donations!

We are truly blessed on head-fi to have many individuals who have the skill and disposition to pull something like this off. Zanth....you are definitely one of those people. Thank you for the well-done write-up.

P.S.- I had a very short conversation with John Grado last year regarding headphone mods and his policy of all repairs being done in-house. Your write-up nails his explanation on this issue and I'm sure it does on the other talking points as well.
