I need some advice.
Ok, here's what i would like to know.
I need a pair of headphones for long journeys/general travel. I have a pair of HD-497's, which are great for my comp, but they look pretty damn stupid. I have a pair of HD-550s, but they hurt my head a LOT after a while.
So, what i'm looking for is a set of good sounding, good looking and comfortable [preferably closed] cans, no more than about $75...if that's possible. Any suggestions?
Or should i just stick with my MD-RG 52s?

if "looks" are all that is bothering you, take the 497's apart and paint the covers bright red, metallic blue, glass black, etc. or put big initials, like I.R.S., C.E.O., President, etc. Heck, you can put a sign that says "This space for rent" or a picture of a fierce tiger or a mellow ***** cat. women will be suckers for pictures of babies on the headphones if you're from the mid west, a bronk'in horse with a rodeo rider on top would be nice, as well as dancers in silouette if you're into ball room dancing. just personalise them with "you".
otherwise i'm afraid that you're left with sony v6/v7506's.

I like wallijonn's suggestions, but they would not involve any additional cost, now would they?
How about the Shure E2c? That is a question because I haven't heard them yet (next week). Canal phones are low profile, and fantastic for travel. Matched to an ipod you will have the ultimate in stealth-audio. They are only slightly above your budget, so nevermind. Go for the Etymotic ER4S!

Thanks for the advice.
I'd preferably want headphones, to go over my head, though.
I looked around a bit today...found some possible contendors; any opinions on the Technics RP-F550s and the MDRV-300s?

Dass mean, man... But somewhat accurate.
I dont think the HD497's look that bad. The V6's are qute low profile compared to the 497.
But are you sure Strafe that it's not your face that's the problem?

How much are the Senn PX250s in the US?
Unchartered territory I know... but maybe worth an email or two to Headroom?

My top five IEMs in order of preference: JVC HA-FX1000 -> JVC HP-FX500 -> Klipsch X10 -> Denon C710 -> JVC HP-FX300
My Cowon S9 / Sony X1000 comparison - now cancelled - This comparison is better than I could manage!!

I'm in the UK...i just presumed that the majority of users would be in the US. I'll keep those in consideration if i can't find a decent closed pair.

Hmm...i've kinda narrowed it down.
Any opinions on the MDR-V500s or Technics RP-F550s? Any would be appreciated...
And all i've read is praise for the V6s, so they're highly taken into consideration.

V500s... generally speaking anything in the Vx00 line will sound like junk... don't go there (especially not for the price they are!! )
The technics, I can't comment as I haven't seen any reviews here, or heard them myself...
The V6... they would probably suit you to a tee... but, they're not sold in the UK, and are increasingly hard to find in the US... then, if you get burnt by customs... you end up paying about an additional £25 to get them to your door........
