I hate straight cords
I've been liking the sound of my new ATH-AD700 quite a bit, but the cord continues to annoy me with it's excessive length (about 10 ft). Unless I take special precaution every time, I'll usually roll over the cord with my desk chair, step on the cord, or--worst of all--I'll step forward while the headphones are off and snag them along while still plugged into my laptop. I snagged it twice today alone, and not only is the headphone bent and slightly loose, it also ripped out the small, circular plastic covering of my new laptop's headphone jack.
Is there any good that comes from a straight cord? With a coil design, the cord constricts and expands according to how much length you need, and is therefore far less likely to get in the way, snag on something, and cause damage to any device or the headphones.
Is there an easy way to replace the cord with a coiled cord?

Also, should I be concerned about the plug being slightly bent and loose? The phones still play fine with it, but I'm a bit worried that it'll come undone any moment or will cause damage to other headphone jacks. Should I bend it straight again with some pliers, or is there a way to replace just the plug? Thanks for any help.

I hate coiled cords... they're unwieldy and deceivingly heavy in my experience. With an excessively long straight cord, the trick is just to keep the cord neat. Whatever length I don't need, I just keep coiled in a circle of ~4-5 inches in circumference on my desk. That way, the cord doesn't get in the way, yet I can still move around without having to worry about yanking the phones out.

Second, I much prefer a set of cans with a long straight cord over one with a coiled cord. On my pair of MDR-V6 that has a coiled cord, you can really feel the added weight of the cord dangling on one side of the can. I also can't move as freely as I want to with a coiled cord as I can with a straight cord set of cans. Sure you have to be a little more cautious with the excessive length when you move about, but it's a small price to pay IMO. Also the coiled cord on my V6 gets twisted together like a phone cord every once in a while and I find that annoying.

I would just get them re-cabled by someone, to a shorter length with a new jack. Shoot me a PM if you want more info.

I have kept my HD 555 cord in its twisty tie since I got them. Whenever some slips out I just keep putting it back. Im already using an extension cord just so that I dont have to reach behind my computer so its just another mile of cable I wish I didnt have to deal with. That and the silly large plug that no one really uses that bugs me even more than the long cable. Good thing the sound makes up for these 2 things though
