Something I've been looking for quite a while showed up last week on a Swedish site where musicians sell and buy stuff. Considering what it was that I was going to buy, I was certain that it would be from some person. However, this ad was from a well respected company.
The ad said something like "the best there is" and "tidigare 9000:-, nu 2000:-" (which translates to "used to be 1000€, now 220€").
Since I couldn't believe what I was reading, I decided to give it a try.
The ad had been up for about three hours when I first called, and I had to wait for 10 minutes before someone picked up the phone. Some pretty nerve wrecking 10 minutes, actually.
When I got a hold of the seller, he just said that "these are pretty special, you know" and "we had them in a cabinet for five years or so, and I found them this morning while cleaning it out".
The seller also told me that the original box and papers were all there. So, what was there to discuss? I emailed my adress to the store, and that's where we are today.
A few hours ago, I got a message on my phone saying that I had a package to pick up. And what happened after that is this story.
Let's start by checking out the box.
AKG acoustics.. Hmm, I know that from some place.
It's a nice enough box, but let's open it up a bit..
What? Some sort of paper inside some plastic wrap with a sketch of something? That's not what I ordered.
This, and some sort of wooden box was underneath the sketch-thing.
Let's examine the box.
Sneaking a peek inside we can see some mesh of some sort.
Enough with the suspense, it's time to see what's really hiding inside.
Oh, the glorious K1000. Pretty much BNIB. As far as I understood it they had been unpacked in the store, but never used.
Here you can see the serial number. It's not that low, but I don't mind. For around 330 USD including shipping, I couldn't be any happier.
Now to find something that can handle powering them as well. I think I'll give it a try hooking them up to my Denon POA-4400A mono blocks, but seeing that they put out atleast 120w/channel it might be a bit on the high side. We'll see about that.
