aaron, thanks for the update. very excited to get my 1.2Bs - which should be soon. i never realized tube amps were so much work though. i thought you just had to let them warm up a bit and you were good to go. solid state is for the lazy folks like me. but i know i will crave tube sounding goodness after a while. no fighting it.

Actually, I am using a pair of Audience AU24 IC's which are very fast but a tad too clinical. I have a pair of Bogdan Gold/Silver Spirit IC's (original style with the wooden dampers in between) going to my Woo and I am going to swap them. The AU24's might be a contributing reason to the glare in the crescendo parts of certain CD's with the Bugle Boys (besides lack of time on them).
Using the Mullard and Valvo (Siemens) 12AX7's in the GES instead of the stock Tung Sol 12BZ7's has greatly improved the tonal output overall, and a tubed amp goes well with the Bogdans. Both headphones are reaping the benefit.

I have listened to Guss2's Aristaeus for a week now with Mitch's Amperex Bugle Boy's ECL86 and ECC-83 tubes, which Justin had marked "Second best" and their best attributes are detail and resolution (with either headphone). The stock tubes (Amperex 6GW8 and JJ Electronics ECC 83 S) aren't even a consideration when making comparisons. The Bugle Boys are a bit bright, but only had a handful of hours on them before I installed them, so they have about 25 hours on them now.
Tonight, I rolled in an all Siemens set that Justin marked "Best" and they were very finicky trying to get the bias set. After an hour of warm up, they were still varying 3-15 Vdc in either direction (the Bugle Boys set up easily an stayed within a volt after a couple of hours).
The Siemens have finally settled out and the cover is back on and rearing to go.
I would say that the Siemens tubes have the same detail attributes as the Amperex, but without the glare, but the bass on the Amperex BB's was more dominant while remaining controlled.
I'm going to give them a while before moving to the Mullards and Telefunkens.
It was more than a year ago, but I think Mitch wanted to use Siemens ECL86s in the amp so I looked for the best set of those. Overall, I remember the Amperex Bugle Boy set being the most "clean" of the Western made ECL86s that Mitch sent. Unfortunately due to the age of most of these tubes, finding identical sets (at Aristaeus operating conditions) is difficult. Only 12 amps being made + the buyers looking for extra tubes was enough to sell out the major dealers.

Hi Justin,
As I told you at the Ft. Lauderdale meet, your amp sounds amazing. I have been fortunate to be able to spend so much time with it, and all of that time has been quite satiating. Nice effort.
If I could afford it, I would definately be on the list for any possible for a second coming.

In reality just a bump, but my Woo Audio GES is in the works. It should be ready slightly before my EH-1.2B come in.
Middle of April is my Birthday. This setup should be a nice B-Day gift
