I'll probably get a custom amp made in the foreseeable future, and I'm already planning to include a jack for the HeAudio.
Could someone please confirm it's a common 5-pin XLR jack?
And regarding bias:
The HeAudio is made for 600 V bias. That's not much more than the 580 V for Stax Pro headphones, and the HeAudios obviously work well with 580 V.
OTOH and AFAIK 580 versus 600 V does make a substantial difference for Koss electrostats.
I don't care for Koss, but does anyone know whether it makes a substantial difference for the HeAudio?
My amp will provide 2 different bias voltages anyway, but I already need both for Stax Pro (580V) and Senn He60 (540 V).Adding a third bias voltage would cost extra and therefor I want to know whether it's worth it or not.

HE60 works perfectly great with Stax Pro bias, so if you are going to install 5-pin XLR (which is the common kind), I would tend to go with Stax Pro bias and 600V for HE XLR and forget about HE60 separate bias.

The only people who have listened to HE1.2b with proper HE bias did it via the HE Audio amp, which most have preferred Woo Audio amp over HE amp, so who knows how important the small difference is.

Page 14 !!

Anyway.....These have been getting the majority of playtime lately and i'm very happy to report that I have had no problems whatsoever.

They have an extremely addictive sound that is very satisfying. A very liquid sound across the entire spectrum, and yet they are VERY resolving.

The soundstage and headstage continue to expand in all directions.
I hate to say this .....as it is rather cliche but they do the "dissapearing act" rather easily.

The earpads have gotten more comfortable over time as they were a little bit stiff at first.

Looking forward to spending time with the loaner Woo GES that is on it's way to me and report my findings. In an Email with Jack he mentioned that the HeAudio jack could be added to the GES for $100 bucks.

Anyone else have anything to report.......???

The Koss magic bias is more like 620v. I'd definitely look for an amp that can provide either a continually adjustable bias (preferred) or at least 4 discrete bias settings. My guess is that the extra 20v will make a pretty big difference (for the better) on how these cans will sound.

Perhaps naamanf would crank his bias and report back. I'd recommending discharging the cans and then apply the higher bias.

Also, do you know if they use 4.7M or a 5M bleeder resistor, or perhaps another value? This is another factor to consider.

I would also like to know this as it can be a big deal to have the correct value here.

I have a couple days off coming up. I will give it a try and report back.

My builder did mention that he could implement a continually adjustable bias since he already has a circuit for the purpose but in this case a built-in voltmeter would be mandatory.

I have an ES-1. I live in Israel. To sned my amp. to Denver to have a HE jack installed would cost me at least 1K in shipping and work and i would have to wait up to two years to get it done.- Not that funny. What other options do I have? Do you know if an ES-1 is set up for multiple biases on the jacks? I have no plans to use my HE90 jack. Can a good technition in Israel replace the HE90 jack with a 5 pin XLR jack biased at 600V? Is this a complex job or pretty straightforward?

How about an adaptor for my stax jack to adapt the voltage from 580V to 600V- Is that a possibility?

Huh? A head-fi member "Shokunin" is currently successfully using HE1.2b with ES1 using the Stax socket. Just use the He Audio supplied Stax adapter.

if you can get a HE-Stax adaptor cable, you should be able to open the bias line and add a pair of 9v battery in series to the bias voltage. This way there is no modification needed to the amp. Since biasing drains almost no current at all, that pair of 9v is basically just seating there, should last a long long long time.

(this is to add 16v to the 580v stax pro-bias so you get 596v for biasing).
