I am having exactly the same dilemma as andy43, removing the portability and isolation issue.
How about HD 25-1?
It cost rather expensive here in Singapore thou, almost US$220.
And many people said it is more for portable use rather than home use.
Everyone have other suggestions?
All right, so we've pretty much narrowed it down. If I can bare the comfort of the SR225's, these are the way to go. But if the comfort is a problem, then the Denon D2000's are the next best thing. Is there anything else I'm missing out on?

Seriously, I would still go for the HD580s. Great all-arounder!

You would still go for HD580 even if the other two were better sounding headphones? Great all-rounder indeed, but the Grados and Denons are superior all-rounders for the price, and I don't even like the Denons.
andy43: Exactly. I don't think there is much more to add honestly.

Steve Jobbs is the devil, one factor in the increasing stupidity in USA (Opinion, don't ask, you'll only get pissed off)
After months of contemplating, I've finally decided to go for the D2000. It's just the perfect headphone for me, at least from the descriptions. It seems to have the perfect match of comfort and bass low enough for electronic that's still tight. I can't wait!
Now for the amp searching. Hopefully it won't be as painful.
Coming up with a well thought out reply in this stage would tear too much on my soul and mind so I will simply say this:
You have no idea if you are restating a first hand, second hand, third, fourth... hell, even fifth hand opinion regarding SR225. That is where the problem in doing such lies, not in the fact that you are diligent in your search for information that will be helpful for the OP.
Bottom line is: First hand comments regarding a particular headphone, amplifier or source is the best when deciding because you have no idea how many times a second hand opinion has been restated by different people.
Of course first hand is the best, as already stated, and it is essential. However, what you fail to concede is there's nothing wrong with offering opinions based on the reading of such allegedly first hand comments. And the subsequent generations of posted opinions does not negate this. Further, there is no net negative consequence from the posting of such opinions. If anything, the free flow of opinions fosters growth and participation at Head-Fi, and that's the bottom line.

You're not alone in such difficult HP deliberations, but I think you made a great HP choice. Just glad you didn't pick the SR225 or HD580.

I feel inclined to laugh, but then again. It's your loss.
Great choice andy. I'm sure you'll be happy with the Denons. They aren't my cup of tea (makes my ears hurt) but there is no denying that the sound they produce is great.

You misunderstood. It's not "my" loss; I was posting for the benefit of the OP. I wasn't the one here considering whether to buy the SR225. Had I been considering the SR225, then perhaps it would have been my loss to choose other cans (a matter of personal preference). But even then, why laugh instead of attempt to help? Well at least that's why I post.
