I will work on adding both the "amping" quality to each headphone as well as sort them by price.

I know this will add a LOT of work... but it would be nice if you could also include the typical price for used units (or estimates), which would greatly help people who are on their budget to choose the best phone they can afford.

Great work btw! Keep it up!

Ok i added the amp rankings as well as sorted the list by price within each category. I tried to take an average of the used and new prices for the price i listed. I will make any changes neccesary to fix that.

Wow handy guide! About time someone did something like this! Nice job. Thanks!

Now that there's a guide like this for DAC's and Headphones there only needs to be one for amps.

If you don't mind, I want to add some captions on phones I have in my procession:

Audio-Technica A900: Massive soundstage, strong bass, and comfort are its strong points. Great for watching movies and slow imtimate jazz. Slight weakness in the low-midrange. Improves ever so slightly with amp provided source is clean.

Grado RS2: A gentler and more refine model of Grado. Liquid mid-range and if used with flat pads, slammy bass. Very good paired with the Mapletree Ear+ (Tube), or Headamp GS-1 (solid state). If 325i is too sharp for you this is the phone to go for.

Sennheiser CX300: Great for the price. Lovely midrange, and very strong bass (although uncontrolled). Boomy bass can be overwhelming at times but does not cover midrange. Highs are the weakness of this phone.

This is an average between the used market, and the new market. The new price was around 325 and the used 260

I cannot fit all of that for one HP, so i took 2 bits from each. I hope that is ok?

great guide! this will be very helpful indeed but i think it would be best if you dont include sonic impressions (we all know thats very subjective)

instead i would suggest only the following:
1. average price
2. physical description (open, closed, supraaural, etc)
3. if possible - a store or a link where you could find the best price in the market

I am accepting write ups from everyone about any headphone, that way we get a lot of different opinions. I am not going into too much detail about each headphone, so i dont think it is a big deal to post impressions. As for the store link, i think you'll find that the prices change so much that it just wouldnt work. Also, i would like to keep people using the For Sale Forum as much as possible. As for the physical desription and other features, Head-fi Member Commando has a wonderful site at headphonereviews.org that has all of that info, as well as more reviews that can be searched through.

Correction: Edition 9, RS-1, MS-Pro do not require an amp, so I'd just put a 2.

Under more than $500 you can add an IEM section:
Westone ES-2
Ultimate Ears UE-10 pro
Ultimate Ears UE-11 Pro
Sensaphonics 2X-S

You can add Stax SR-303, 404 in $300-500 section
Stax SR-001 probably should fall into IEMs <$300
Stax SR-003 can go into the same section as SR-001 seeing how it is identical.
All of the above can require amps, but it makes sense to add that SR-001 comes with an amplifier, and all the others are generally bundled with them also.

Also Stax Omega 2 in greater than 500.
