Why no Audio Technica AD900? They are amazing phones.

Hello, guys; great thread.

So, i have a couple of questions:

1. I recently bought a Shure e2C. I did a 100+ hours burn in, but i'm not sure about the sound characteristics: bass specially, it feels as if it doesn't have much bass. The sound quality is great, i just feel they are quite "flat". Same thing happens to me with the JVC Marshmallows, which are listed as bassy or bloated bass.

2. Is there any improvement upgrading to a Shure e3C?

3. I also own the Senn 280 and Grado SR60. I listen directly to from my laptop, ipod shuffle or nano. Should i consider a small/portable amp?

4. I guess my general question is: should i consider upgrading the headphones; upgrading to an amp; try to improve the source; or just continue listening to the damn thing??

Thanks

Headphones cannot really compete with speakers for bass. After all bass is also a feeling.
Headphones and especially IEMs have comparatively tiny 'speakers'.

Not to say headphones are completely bassless, that'd be a foolish comment. IEMs wouldn't be where I'd look for bass.

This thread is great considering that I'm new to this hi-fi stuff. I'm pretty much obsessed with headphones now and in desperate need of an upgrade. Although, I'm on a pretty tight budget. I don't think this is a good hobby for me. :/
